I’ve used Instagram for years now and there are times when you realize you suddenly stop seeing someone’s content. You think to yourself, did i accidentally unfollow them? was it a glitch? did i even follow them in the first place?
These are all questions you could be wondering but there are ways to know if someone removed you as a follower without you having to do the guessing game.
1. You Used to Follow Them Now You Don’t
One of the quickest ways to tell if someone removed you as a follower on Instagram is to check your following list to if you no longer follow them now.
You can also use the search bar at the top of your following list to type in your username and see if they are on your following list. If they do not appear on your following list, then they have unfortunately removed you as a follower.

2. Their Account is Now Private
Another way to check is if you go to their profile and you see that it’s private. If you see that it’s now private, this means that you were removed because when you follow someone, you should be able to see their posts.
So, if you know that their account is set to private and when you go to their profile and it says “This account is set to Private.” This means that they have removed you as a follower.
However, if they do not have their Instagram account set to Private, you can simply go on to your account and then tap on their “following” list, which will show you every account you follow. From there, check if you’re following them.
3. Ask Them
Another way to find out if someone has removed you from their followers list is to simply ask them. If they have removed you as a follower and their Instagram account is set to Private, then you can still message them via DMs on Instagram; however, they will be able to read the message but they can also decide to either accept the message or decline.
Bare in mind if someone removes you as a follower, there are ways to view their profile if they’re private. This means you’ll still be able to see their content even though you don’t follow them anymore.
It is important to state that it is their account and it is their choice who can follow them. However, it is also your choice to follow them or not, which means you can respond by not following them back.
If you are unable to message them on Instagram, you can contact them on another social media platform or you can possibly text them if you have their phone number. Simply ask them if they removed you as a follower.
While it may be nerve-wracking, awkward, or even terrifying to ask someone why they removed you as a follower. Sometimes it is the most effective way to find out if someone removed you as a follower.

4. Your Following Count Has Decreased
Yet another simple way to tell if someone removed you as a follower is to check if your following count has decreased. This is because if they have removed you as a follower, you’ll no longer be following them so your following count has to go down.
So, if the number of your following has gone down, then they removed you. Whilst doing this, you can also go to your followers list to check if they unfollowed you.
If they do not appear on your followers list, then they have stopped following you.
