What happens when the Wyze Plug fails to update? What if this update is mandatory and you can not use your Wyze Plug without this update? You may be asking yourself all of these questions and more. Thankfully there are solutions to this problem.
In this guide, I will be going over the most common reasons behind why your Wyze Plug updates are failing. Read below to see how you can troubleshoot this problem yourself.
Why Does Wyze Say Plug in Failed to Update?
There could be a few reasons why your Wyze Plug is failing to complete an update. It can range from having a bad WiFi connection to issues with the Wyze app. This issue could even lie with the device itself, or even the mobile device that you are using. Below I will discuss all of these reasons and more.
1. Network Connection Issue
One of the most common reasons behind why your Wyze Plug is saying the update has failed is a bad network connection. This can either be due to a slow or no network connection.
Since the Wyze Plug needs WiFi for it to work, especially when doing an update. So if you have a slow or no WiFi connection this can cause the update for your Wyze Plug to fail. There are ways to see if this is indeed the issue of why your Wyze Plug Update keeps failing.
Fix – Check Network Connection/ Unplug and Plug in Wyze Plug/ Reconnect Wyze Plug to WiFi
Check your WiFi connection. This should be the first thing to do when you are experiencing any issue with updating a device. Your Wyze Plug needs to have a good WiFi connection to complete the update. Even if your WiFi connection is slow this can affect the update on your Wyze Plug.
If you notice that your Wyze Plug is not connected to WiFi check the other device in your home that is also connected to your WiFi. Do these other devices in your home have a good WiFi connection?
If the answer is no, that is your first sign that you have no network connection in your home. You can reboot your router to see if this will bring back your WiFi. If this does not work you should contact your network provider to report this issue.
If the answer is yes, the other devices in your home are connected to your WiFi and have a good connection. Then the issue is not likely with the Wyze Plug not being able to connect to your WiFi.
Try unplugging the Wyze Plug, wait a few minutes, and plug the Wyze Plug back in. Once the Wyze Plug is plugged back in, reconnect it to your WiFi. Maybe all the device needed was a little refreshing.
2. Bug/Glitch Within the Wyze App
When your Wyze Plug is failing to complete an update and the issue is not with your WiFi connection, the next thing to consider is a possible bug/glitch within the Wyze App software.
Like with all apps this is a common thing and can cause the app not to function properly. This is where I say doing an update will help with that. But what happens when there is a bug/glitch within the Wyze App that is preventing you from doing an update?
What do you do now? Do not worry there are a couple of ways you can clear a bug/glitch from an app.
Fix – Clear Cache From Wyze App/Uninstall and Reinstall the Wyze App
First thing you are going to try if there is a bug/glitch in the Wyze App that is preventing you from updating your Wyze Plug, is clear the Cache on the Wyze app. I know that sounds too easy, but it can be as easy as that.
Clearing the cache on an app will refresh the app and can clear Any bugs/glitches that are causing issues with that app.
Once you have cleared the Cache check to see if the update on your Wyze Plus will work. If this does not solve the issue there is another step you can take.
Delete the Wyze app off of your Mobile Device. Once the app is deleted, wait a few minutes before you reinstall the app back onto your mobile device.
Doing this will not only clear any potential bugs/glitches that may be causing this issue, but it will also reinstall the Wyze app with the most recent software version.
When the Wyze app is installed onto your mobile device log back onto your Wyze account and see if you can update your Wyze Plug.
3. Trouble Connecting Device to Wyze App
Bringing up connection issues again, what if the reason behind the Wyze Plug update failing is due to the device not being able to connect to the app? This is a possible reason, and if your Wyze Plug can not connect to the Wyze app then the device can not be updated.
This is an issue especially if the update is mandatory for the device to work. There are steps you can take to get your Wyze Plug to once again connect to the Wyze app.
Fix – Delete/Re-add Device From Wyze App
One of the best things you can do when you notice that your Wyze Plug is not connecting to the Wyze app is to delete the device from the app. You can do this by going into the devices options in your setting on the Wyze app.
Once the Wyze Plug is deleted from the app, re-add the device back onto the app. I would like a few minutes before you re-add the Wyze Plug back onto the Wyze app.
4. Problem With Mobile Device
Since you are using a mobile device to access the Wyze app to do the update for your Wyze Plug. Maybe the issue is with the mobile device that you are using. This seemed to be one of the reasons why the Wyze Plug was failing to update, based on other users.
Issues with your mobile devices can cause apps and features on the mobile device to malfunction. This can be an easy solution to the issue you are having updating your Wyze Plug.
Fix – Restart Mobile Device/Check For Updates On Your Mobile Device
One of the solutions for other users who have also had this issue, is restarting the mobile device that you use for the Wyze Plug. Restarting your phone can reset corrupt files that could be causing this problem. And yes once again the solution can be as easy as restarting your mobile device.
Also another thing you can do is check your phone for any Software updates just because the Wyze Plug is failing to update does not mean your mobile device can not be updated.
Doing an update can clear any corrupt files that could be affecting the Wyze app. If there is a software update on your phone do the update and go in the Wyze app to see if you can complete the update for your Wyze Plug.
5. Fault Wyze Plug
If none of the solutions above has worked and the update on your Wyze Plug is still failing. It may be time to consider that the Wyze Plug is faulty. Either due to basic wear and tear on the device or a manufacturer error of your Wyze Plug is not updating it could be faulty.
And if you do not have the latest update for your Wyze Plug this can cause your device to not work properly or not work at all. In this case, there are not a lot of options to take.
Fix – Contact Wyze Customer Support/Replace Wyze Plug
Having a Wyze Plug that is failing to update could mean that your Wyze Plug is faulty. As mentioned above it could be due to basic wear and tear or a manufacturer error.
Whatever the reason may be if you have a faulty Wyze Plug contact the Wyze Customer Support to report the problem. The Wyze Customer Support will guide you on what you should do next.
