Normally your iPhone battery is yellow of green – it’s green when you start charging it and it’s white when it’s not charging and it’s over 20%. Luckily, there isn’t anything wrong with your iPhone battery, in fact, your battery is actually being helped so there’s nothing to worry about.

The yellow battery icon represents Low Power Mode and it’s there to help your battery when you need to save battery life. It doesn’t do much in terms of helping your battery, you’ll need to do a lot more advanced things to stop your battery from draining.

Why Is My iPhone Battery Yellow?

Turn off low power mode

Your iPhone battery icon is yellow because Low Power Mode is turned it. To change the battery icon back to normal, Go to Settings > Battery > Toggle Low Power Mode Off. Or you can wait till your battery hits 80% because Low Power Mode turns off automatically.

How your Battery Turned Yellow in the First Place

If you’re wondering how Low Power Mode turned on in the first place without you doing anything, you probably didn’t turn it on manually. You probably didn’t turn on Low Power Mode intentionally by going into settings > battery.

When your battery automatically hits 20%, you’re shown a prompt which allows you to turn on Low Power Mode so that you can save some battery. Once your iPhone hits 80% again, then Low Power mode turns off again and your battery goes from yellow to green.

What is Low Power Mode

When Low Power Mode is on, your iPhone will last longer before you need to charge it, so this is useful if you’re going out or you don’t have a charger nearby. The upside is that your iPhone stays on for longer, but the downside is that some processes can take longer to complete or update. Also, some tasks might not work when Low Power Mode is turned on.

Low Power Mode turns off the following features:

  • Email fetch
  • “Hey Siri”
  • Background app refresh
  • Automatic downloads
  • Some visual effects
  • Auto-Lock (defaults to 30 seconds)
  • iCloud Photos (temporarily paused)
