Why is uBlock Origin Not Blocking Hulu Ads? 

When you are using uBlock Origin one of the main features you want to work is the ad blocker, when this does not work it can become annoying having to watch those pesky ads.

An issue you may be having is that your uBlock Origin is not blocking Hulu ads, making you have to sit through the ads while watching your favorite movies or shows.

This could be happening for different reasons, this guide will go over the reasons why this technical issue could be happening and ways you can troubleshoot this issue yourself.

A reminder before you do anything make sure that your internet browser is updated to the most recent version making sure that it is running efficiently. 

1. uBlock Origin Cache Needs Purging

When you are using uBlocker Origin on whatever internet browser you use, you expect it to block all ads from the streaming services such as Hulu.

Ads can be annoying when they pop up in the middle of the show or movie you are watching and they seem to do it at the most inconvenient time.

This is the reason why you have uBlock Origin, so you do not have to deal with ads when you are streaming on Hulu. Once an issue that can come up is that your cache needs to be purged from your uBlock Origin.

If you have not cleared your cache in a while, or you have never cleared the cache on uBlock Origin before this may cause issues with your uBlock Origin. One of the issues is that your uBlock Origin is not blocking ads on Hulu. 

Fix – Purge All Cache On uBlock Origin

As stated above when you are having a technical issue such as your uBlock Origin is not blocking the ads that pop up on Hulu when you are streaming a show or movie, it could be a simple solution as needing to purge all cache.

This issue can become annoying to you because that is one reason why you have an ad blocker like uBlock Origin in the first place.

If this is happening to you the first thing you should do is purge all cache from your uBlock Origin. Follow these steps below to clear all the cache from your uBlock Origin. 

Step One: Go into your uBlock Origin Dashboard.

Step Two: Once you are in the uBlock Origin Dashboard you will see the “Filter List”, click on that.

Step Three: You will see an option that says, “Purge all caches” when you click on it and it will clear the cache on your uBlock Origin.

2. uBlock Origin Needs An Update

When you are noticing technical issues on your uBlock Origin especially when you are streaming on platforms like Hulu it could mean that you need to update your uBlock Origin filter lists.

One of these issues is that when streaming a movie or show on Hulu the ads will still pop up even though you have uBlock Origin. Updating your uBlock Origin can refresh and reset any technical issue uBlock Origin may be having at the time.

Note, updating uBlock Origin filter lists will not reset any settings in your internet browser. However; you should always make sure that your internet browser is updated as well.

Fix – Update uBlock Origin Filter Lists

When you are streaming Hulu and your uBlock Origin is not blocking the ads that show up on the streaming service, it could be because it needs an update.

The best way to do this is to purge all cache on your uBlock Origin first and then update the filter lists. This has been known to fix this particular issue.

There is a way to update your uBlock Origin filter lists and it is easy to do by following these steps. 

Step One: Go into your Dashboard on uBlock Origin. 

Step Two: Click on “Filter List”.

Step Three: Click on “Update Now”.

Note, when you update uBlock Origin you can run into a problem with the update button being grayed out. You can get past this and do a force update by going into your filters list on your uBlock Origin Dashboard, it will show you the last time it has been updated.

You will see a clock icon, click on the clock icon and now you will be able to perform a forced update.

3. Bug/Glitch Issue With uBlock Origin

With anything technical it can run into the occasional bug/glitch, this can cause uBlock Origin from blocking ads on Hulu. If you have purged all cache and did an update on uBlock Origin and the ads are still popping up when streaming on Hulu this can be a bug/glitch. 

Fix – Wait a Few Hours Until Bug/Glitch is Fixed

When experiencing a bug/glitch with uBlock Origin not blocking ads on Hulu and you have purged all cache and updated the filter list it could be a technical issue that can only be fixed by the uBlock support team.

Waiting a few hours and seeing if the support team fixes the issue may be the only thing you can do. Waiting for the support team to put out a fix can be annoying since if you are wanting to stream you may have to deal with ads.

4. Problem With uBlock Origin

If you have uBlock Origin and you are having technical issues with the ads not being blocked when streaming on Hulu there are ways you can fix it on your one as stated above.

Though, if you have purged all the cache, updated the filter lists, and waited a few hours to see if the support team fixed the bug/glitch and you are still experiencing this issue there is another option you can take.

Having to deal with ads is the exact opposite of what you want when you have uBlock Origin. 

Fix – Contact uBlock Origin Support Team

Contacting the uBlock Origin support team is an option to take when you have done everything listed above and still are experiencing ads when streaming on Hulu.

When you have uBlock Origin it is supposed to block the ads when you are streaming shows and movies on Hulu, if uBlock Origin is not blocking the ads this can be an issue that the support team does not know about yet.

Informing the uBlock Origin support team can draw their attention to the issue so that they can fix it because it can be a bug/glitch that only the support team can fix. 

5. Insufficient Ad Blocker

If you have waited hours for the support team to fix the issue of uBlock Origin not blocking the ads on Hulu, and you have purged all cache and updated the filter lists there it could be that uBlock Origin is not enough and you need to download another application to help the ads from popping up when streaming on Hulu.  

Fix – Download AdGuard 

If you have uBlock Origin and are still having issues with it not blocking ads from Hulu you can download another ad blocker such as AdGuard.

Users who are having this same issue say that when the purging of cache, contacting support, and updating the filter list did not work they downloaded AdGuard and had no more issues with ads popping up when streaming on Hulu.

Having both ad blockers can only better your internet security and make sure that ads do not pop up. Downloading AdGuard is simple with these few steps. 

Step One: Go to the AdGuard web page.

Step Two: Scroll down until you see the “Install” button and click on it.

Step Three: Wait until AdGuard is Installed, once installed it will ask you to enable AdGuard, click enable.

When streaming on Hulu the last thing you want is to see ads when you have uBlock Origin, when this happens there are a few things that you can do. As previously stated the first two things you should do is purge all cache and update the filter lists on uBlock Origin, this has been known to fix this issue for most people.

If you are still experiencing issues with ads showing when streaming on Hulu this could be a bug/glitch that only the uBlock Origin support team can fix, a fix that can take up to a few minutes to sometimes hours.

You can always contact the support team yourself and inform them that uBlock Origin is not blocking the ads while streaming on Hulu. Whatever the issue is if you are wanting to have extra internet privacy you can download another ad blocker like AdGuard.
