Twitter Not Loading Images? Try These 16 Fixes

0

Twitter is a news app that allows its users to publish tweets, and upload their favorite pictures and videos so that they can receive interactions such as likes and retweets. This entices people to post on Twitter because they know that an audience out there would like what they’re doing.

If images and videos aren’t loading on Twitter, this issue can be annoying especially when you want to have a good experience on your timeline. Photos and videos make up a large part of Twitter so if you can’t see them, then it can be frustrating.

Why Aren’t Twitter Images Loading?

Images and videos on Twitter need the internet to load because they are all stored on Twitter’s servers. When your internet is down or there’s a server issue occurring on Twitter’s side, your pictures on the app are going to have a hard time loading.

If images not loading is down to your internet connection, you’ll notice that there’s a blank loading screen where your image is meant to be and it doesn’t seem to show the image, just a loading screen that takes forever to load. To load up Twitter images, you’ll have to have a strong internet connection. This means that you’ll have to perform a few troubleshooting steps on Twitter to check what the problem is.

After this, you should be able to see people’s pictures and videos on your timeline just fine.

1. There’s A Prank Being Played

A common trend on Twitter is for people to tweet a fake loading screen that occurs when pictures don’t load on Twitter. But the catch is that the fake loading screen makes you think that an image is about to load, so you sit there waiting and nothing ever loads. This picture prank is very common on Twitter and the tweet or caption is usually something that makes you really want to see what the picture is so that the person who tweeted it wastes your time. To know if a fake loading screen prank is being played on you, you need to check if other pictures are loading on Twitter. If they are, then you’ll know that there are people are posting a fake loading pic so that you think that their pictures aren’t loading.

2. Poor Internet Connection

Another reason why pictures are taking long to load is that you aren’t connected to the wi-fi. Twitter requires a good internet connection to function properly. You’ll need to make sure that your internet connection is strong before pictures can load.

If your router isn’t accessing the internet properly, this could stop your device from having good network coverage which means that you may be unable to see things like videos.

3. Servers Are Down

If the Twitter servers are down, then this could be a reason why you’re not able to see pictures and videos on your timeline. The servers Twitter uses to host the Twitter app are down and this allows you to see images other people upload. When the servers are down in your specific location, it means that people near you are struggling to load images too.

In this situation, you’ll have to wait for the servers to come back up and this can take a few hours. If you know people that are having issues with Twitter at the same time as you, this is how you know that there’s an issue with the Twitter server.

There’s a website called downdetector that allows you to see when Twitter is having an issue with its server. All you have to do is search, ‘is Twitter down?’. It tells you when there’s a surge in the number of complaints people are making in regards to Twitter not working properly. If you see that the live outrage is concentrated around your location, it looks like you’ll have to wait for the server to come back up again.

4. Twitter Has A Bug

Another common reason why pictures aren’t loading on Twitter is that there’s a bug going on within the app. When there’s a glitch within Twitter, it can cause unexpected errors with a common one being images not loading up. A glitch is a failure within the software and when this happens, it may prevent pictures and videos from showing.

To fix this glitch, then you need to get rid of the error within the app and this can be done in your settings.

1. Open the Settings app. The app icon resembles a gear that is kept against a gray background.

2. On the Settings menu, scroll down to “Apps” and tap on that option.

3. When you’re on the Apps menu, select the “Twitter” app from the list of the apps on your device.

4. Once you click on the app, you’ll have to select the option on the screen that says “Storage.”

5. At the top of the storage screen, you’ll see the Clear Data and Clear Cache options.

6. Select each of those options, one by one.

What To Do If Twitter Is Not Loading Images

If Twitter isn’t loading up images, then you’ll need to troubleshoot the problem with one way being to get a better internet connection. Without a strong internet connection, pictures are going to take forever to load.

1. Wait For Twitter To Go Back Up

The first and most simple thing you should do when you notice that Twitter isn’t loading up images is to wait for them to start showing. Waiting for them to show up usually fixes the problem. This could involve you waiting for a few more seconds for the images to load or it could involve you going back to the tweet a few hours later.

2. Wait For Them To Come Out With A Fix

If you notice that images won’t load on Twitter, you should wait for Twitter to come out with a fix. If you’re noticing that images aren’t showing, just know that this is a sitewide thing that everyone will be experiencing so the old solution is to wait for Twitter to get rid of the bug.

3. Use Twitter.com

If you want a chance to see images on your feed, just use Twitter.com. Since the app version and desktop version of Twitter are different, you can check to see if the website version of Twitter has the same problem. To do this, go on Twitter.com, login, and scroll through your timeline. When you see a tweet you’re interested in, click on the image to see if you can see them.

4. Update Timeline

Since the main reason for this problem would be a bug, the best thing you can do to try and combat this problem would be to update Twitter.

The main reason why an update would be released is to be able to get rid of a bug. If you look at the features of an update, you’ll usually see the term bug fixes. If you haven’t been able to load images on Twitter, this update would fix the bug that’s causing it.

5. Close then Re-open the App to Get Rid Of Bugs

Since there’s an issue within Twitter, you should restart the app to see if you can get rid of the bug. When the app is restarting, things like a bug in the system of the app can be removed simply because it was restarted.

It’s also an easy first step to take and it’ll let you know if there’s a deep issue within the app. After you’ve closed the app from the multitasking switch, you can open it and check if twitter videos are loading.

6. Delete Twitter

If Twitter isn’t showing pictures, you’ll need to delete and reinstall Twitter again. This only works if the app has a bug that’s causing you not to load images on your timeline. To delete an app, hold down on it, press the x, then select delete and confirm your decision.

7. Log Out Then Back In

Getting rid of bugs that can cause Twitter to not load images can be done by logging out them back into Twitter. Once you’ve logged out, log back in and check if you’re able to see pictures on your timeline. If it has come back, then you know that there was a glitch that caused the images not to show up.

8. Poor Internet Connection

If you have a poor internet connection, either you’re on mobile data or a slightly slow WiFi network, it can cause problems with loading images. To fix any internet issues that cause loading issues, you can restart your wifi.

If you found that restarting it didn’t work, this means that there’s a problem with your router. In this case, you would either need to restart your router or reset it if restarting it doesn’t work.

9. Clear Twitter Cache

The next thing you need to do is to clear the cache files in Twitters directory. Cache files are temporary files that are stored in Twitter’s directory which are saved there to make things load quicker when you do the same action or make that certain action again.

When these files are deleted, you’ll literally notice nothing but a smoother app and the best thing about this is that clearing the cache can get rid of problems that could stop images from loading. When you clear the cache of Twitter, it’s basically the same as you deleting the apps then installing it again and logging in.

It basically gets rid of the files that have been saved since the app was installed. To clear Twitter’s cache:

1. Open the Settings app on the iPhone

2. Go to General

3. Go to iPhone Storage

4. Tap on Twitter

5. Tap on Delete App

After you’ve done this, you need to go back to Twitter and install the app again. After it’s installed, log back onto the app and see if people’s pictures are loading on your timeline.

10. Use Another Account

If there’s something wrong with your accounts that’s not allowing images to load up on your timeline, you can simply use another account. If you use another account, then this will allow you to see if images can load there. If images are loading on the account, then you can conclude that there’s something wrong with your account.

There may be a glitch specific to your account that’s preventing peoples images and videos from loading on your time which is why when you use another account, it loads up.

11. Check the Network Permissions

If you’re having trouble loading photos on twitter and you’re using mobile data, then you should check your network permissions. There’s a chance that you’re not allowing Twitter to access your mobile data which means that it won’t be able to load up photos. You’ll need to change permissions to allow Twitter to load up photos and videos.

To allow Twitter to access your data:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Open Twitter.
  4. Choose Data.
  5. Make sure that both Wi-Fi and Mobile Data are toggled on.

12. Disable Data Saving

If you have data saving mode enable, disabling it could allow images to load on the app. Data saving mode tweaks the way photos and videos are presentented on the app but it could also prevent pictures from loading. To fix this, you should disable data saving mode to see if this allows pictures to load up.

To disable Data saving on Twitter:

  1. Open Twitter.
  2. Tap on the hamburger menu.
  3. Select Settings and privacy.
  4. Tap Data usage.
  5. Toggle off the Data saver box.

13. Use a VPN

If you experience Twitter images not loading all the time, then chances are it could be down to the region you’re in. If you’re in a country and the government has restricted access to social media, then you could have trouble using the app. This is especially if you’re in countries like China, Nigeria and North Korea. These countries and other similar countries don’t have freedom of press like most other countries so you may need a VPN to access Twitter, whether that’s on the app or with a browser. A VPN such as Nord VPN or Betternet either from the Google Play Store or App Store will work fine.

14. Install Older Version via APK

If there’s something wrong with the Twitter app, then installing an older version of twitter might allow images to start loading up again. This can be done by looking for the APK file that’ll allow you to install the old version.

If you’re on Android, you’ll have to allow apps that aren’t downloaded from the Google Play Store to be downloaded on your phone. If you’re on iPhone, you won’t be able to install these apps unless you jailbreak your iPhone.
To install an older version of Twitter:
  1. Uninstall Twitter.
  2. Enable installation of non-official apps.
  3. Go to the APK Mirror website.
  4. Scroll through the Twitter versions and choose an older iteration, and then download it to your device.
  5. Run the APK and allow it to install.
  6. Open Twitter and check if you can load images on your timeline.

15. Reset Network Settings

When you reset your network settings, this will fix any network problems that is causing Twitter images not to show. Resetting the network settings clears any setting that relates to a network which could fix the app that’s having issues. When you do this, your settings will go back to how there were when you first had your device.

To reset your network settings:

Android:

  1. Go to the Settings app on your Android.
  2. Scroll to and select General management or System
  3. Tap either Reset or Reset options
  4. Tap on Reset network settings.

A confirmation will pop up, tap on ‘Reset Network Settings’ again to confirm your decision. This will reboot your device and once it’s back on, go back into Twitter and check if you can see images and videos.

iOS:

  1. Go to the Settings app
  2. Tap on General
  3. Click on Reset
  4. Click on Reset Network Settings

16. Contact Twitter Support

App developers frequently release new versions of their apps that include a variety of bug patches and new features. You should return to the Google Play Store or the App Store and see if an update is available. If pictures still aren’t loading up on your timeline, you should contact Twitter support. If an update for the program is available, make sure you install it as soon as possible. Often, this is sufficient to resolve the situation.
