Why Won’t My Toshiba TV Turn On?
1. Remote is Broken
Fix – Use Universal Remote
If you have another remote handy, this can be the remedy to your issues with your Toshiba TV. Since this tv is smart tv you can download the Universal TV Remote app onto it. Do so by going to the app store on your Toshiba TV.
Search for the Universal TV Remote app. Download it and now you will need another remote. Using the app, link your new remote to the Universal TV Remote app. Now, this new remote will be able to control your TV even if it is not a Toshiba TV remote.
Having a universal remote will also come in handy if you sustain water damage to the remote as well. That way, if you do happen to damage your remote, you have another option that will for sure work on your Toshiba TV.
2. Bad Connections
Fix – Check and Re-plug Cables Correctly
There are a lot of very simple explanations, as well, as to why your Toshiba TV might not be turning on. Having your cables plugged in is one of them. Maybe you tripped over a cord and accidentally unplugged it or you did not quite push your connector all the way in.
Whatever the reason may be, your problems can easily be solved if this is the cause of your issues with the Toshiba TV. No reason should be overlooked as even something as simple as having your Toshiba TV not properly plugged in can be the only reason you are experiencing any issues with the device.
Fix 2 – Change the HDMI Cable
Your HDMI cable may be the reason your Toshiba television is not turning on. Buying a new HDMI cable (view on Amazon) might be your only option to getting a device that needs an HDMI cable to hook up to your tv.
One way you can get one is to reach out to Toshiba directly and ask for a replacement HDMI cable. They will most likely offer to replace yours for free and send you your new HDMI cable, but this can take potentially up to a few weeks for them to hear your problem and send you a new one. You can also go and buy one yourself to get your new HDMI cable in a much faster way.
If you want to shop in person, head on over to any store similar to Walmart, Best Buy, or even Target. Once you get there, go to the technology department and locate a new HDMI cable.
If you are struggling to find a HDMI cable, ask the nearest worker to help you and they will give you a variety of different HDMI cables that work with the Toshiba television.
You can also find one on Amazon, Ebay, or any other online store and get it shipped to your house. These types of HDMI cables range from $5 to $80, so you should be able to find one that fits your budget if you do not want to wait for Toshiba to send you your new one.
3. Bug in TV
Fix – Force Turn on TV
Another reason why you might be struggling to turn on your Toshiba TV is that there is a bug in the software. Your Toshiba TV may be fully functioning and ready to go and the fault may simply lie in this bug and not your tv.
This means you will have to manually turn on your Toshiba TV from the tv itself and not the remote.
To do this, all you have to do is click the power button on your Toshiba TV. For most TVs and other technological devices, plugging them in usually activates the device and turns it on. However, sometimes plugging in said device is not enough.
Just click the power button on your Toshiba TV and this may get it to finally turn on. Doing this is called Force Turn On and it may allow you to work past the bug or glitch occurring in your Toshiba TV.
Fix 2 – Power Cycle
The next action you can try to get your Toshiba TV to turn on is to power cycle it, which is just another way of trying to reset your Toshiba TV. To do this, all you will need is something with a small tip such as a paper clip.
Now, go to your Toshiba TV. On the back side, or underneath the tv, look for a very small hole labeled RESET. Once you are able to locate and find this hole, push the end of the paper clip or other small item you had into this RESET hole. Keep holding it down for
a couple of moments so you can ensure your Toshiba TV is actually going through a power cycle. Now, your Toshiba TV is reset and you can try once again to get it to turn on.
Fix 3 – Firmware Update
Your Toshiba TV may be working on an outdated system that is causing your charging problems as well. Just like your phone and other devices you use, your Toshiba TV also requires a system update frequently.
Thankfully, there are some easy steps you can take to get your Toshiba TV updated, and hopefully, for it to finally turn on.
To update, you can usually do it through your Toshiba TV itself. Since your tv is not turning on, you will need to take some additional steps to update it.
First, you will need a USB drive. Now, go to the Toshiba TV website and download the update onto your USB drive. Next, simply plug your USB drive into the USB port on your Toshiba TV.
This update will automatically download onto your Toshiba TV and hopefully allow you to finally start up your TV. However, if there was not a software update available, this is not what your Toshiba TV is not turning on.
Fix 4 – Factory Reset
Another possible solution to getting your Toshiba TV to turn on is to put it through a factory reset. This can easily be done from the comforts of your living room, or anywhere else you are trying to use your Toshiba TV.
All you have to do to do this reset is hold down the power button and the volume down button at the same time for five seconds. Once this is done, your Toshiba TV will be going through a factory reset.
It should automatically turn back on as soon as the reset is complete. You may have to manually try to turn it on as well if nothing has happened a few moments after resetting your Toshiba TV.
4. Socket Issue
Fix – Try a Different Power Outlet
Another almost basic reason as to why your Toshiba TV will not power on is because your outlet, or possibly even the socket itself, is having issues and not working. This problem should be considered right away because sockets and outlets have a tendency to go out for a variety of different reasons.
You may have overpowered the circuit or possibly just left something plugged in for too long. No matter the reason, a lot of problems can be caused by having a faulty outlet or socket so this problem has a very high probability of being the root of your issues with your Toshiba TV not turning on.
Outlets themselves can be very picky and decide to stop working with no cause. This means that the coaxial wall outlet you have decided to plug your Toshiba TV into may be the reason it will not stop blinking. If you are currently using an outlet that has two different sockets, try plugging your Toshiba TV into the other socket in that outlet.
If your Toshiba TV still will not turn on, try using a new outlet all together. Hopefully, there are some within reach of your Toshiba TV still, but if not, you can try to use an extension cord so your Toshiba TV can reach the next closest, functioning outlet and socket.
5. Bug with Remote
Fix – Turn on From TV and Not Remote
Your Toshiba TV may be fully functioning and ready to go and the fault may simply lie in the remote and not your tv.
Fix 2 – Replace Batteries From Remote
The batteries might also be dead in your remote which is causing it to not power on your Toshiba TV. All you will need to do to fix this problem is replace them.
Open up the back of the remote and take out the current ones in there. You can toss them out but make sure you check what size they are. Most remotes take AA sized batteries, so you will most likely need more of those.
If you do not have any batteries around your home, head on out to virtually any store and buy a pack of new ones. The more expensive they are, the more likely they are to last longer.
Once you have acquired your new batteries, load them into the back of the remote. There will be writing inside the remote to show you either a + or – sign on each end.
Align the correct side of the battery up to each side and then slide the cover back on. This will replace your batteries in your remote and hopefully allow you to finally power up your Toshiba TV.
6. Signal Interference
Fix – Remove Anything Blocking TV Remote
In order for your remote to be able to send signals to the Toshiba TV, and then in turn power on this Toshiba TV, there can be nothing in the way of these signals.
If you have placed your Toshiba TV on the mantle and have placed some perfectly organized and styled decor to try and hide the clutter that comes with having so many cords, this decor may be blocking the signals to the Toshiba TV, thus being the reason you are failing to power on the tv.
Anything, no matter the size, can be blocking these signals and causing all of your problems with the Toshiba TV. Your
Toshiba TV may not be turning on if you are trying to turn it on using your remote because there are too many things in front of the tv for it to register what you are doing with the remote.
It may be something as small as a kleenex box that is just sitting in the perfect spot to block the signals from the remote. Removing any and all items, no matter their size, that are blocking the Toshiba TV will ensure that there is nothing getting in the way of the remote directing the Toshiba TV.
Once everything is moved and there is a clear path for the signals to be sent, try again to use your remote to power on your Toshiba TV..
Fix – Let the TV Cool Down
Your Toshiba TV might be overheating, so it will not actually turn on. Think of this issue like your phone. If you are outside on a hot day and using your phone, it will start to work slower and you might even receive a message saying your phone will not work until it cools down. This is the same with the Toshiba TV.
If it is too hot, it might not be able to work. If your Toshiba is not turning on because it is overheating, just give the Toshiba TV an hour or two to cool down and then try to turn it on again. By simply just feeling the Toshiba TV, you can tell if it is at a workable temperature or not.
If it is just barely warm, you can try to use it but if it is hot to the touch, wait longer. Unplugging everything from it as well as unplugging your Toshiba TV from its outlet will help this cool down happen faster.
8. Power Supply Board Failure
Fix – TV Power Board Replacement
Your TV Power Board may be the reason your Toshiba television is not turning on. Buying a new TV Power Board might be your only option to getting your Toshiba TV to turn on. One way you can get one is to reach out to Toshiba directly and ask for a replacement TV Power Board.
They will most likely offer to replace yours for free and send you your new TV Power Board, but this can take potentially up to a few weeks for them to hear your problem and send you a new one.
You can also go and buy one yourself to get your new TV Power Board in a much faster way. If you want to shop in person, head on over to any store similar to Walmart, Best Buy, or even Target.
Once you get there, go to the technology department and locate a new TV Power Board. If you are struggling to find a TV Power Board, ask the nearest worker to help you and they will give you a variety of different
TV Power Boards that work with the Toshiba television. You can also find one on Amazon, Ebay, or any other online store and get it shipped to your house. These types of HDMI cables range from $20 to $200, so you should be able to
find one that fits your budget if you do not want to wait for Toshiba to send you your new one.
9. Backlight Broken
Another reason that your Toshiba TV is not turning on is that the backlight within the tv is broken, meaning nothing will appear on the screen. If this is happening to you, all you will need is a screwdriver, some LED strips, some wires, and a soldering iron.
Once you have all these items handy, simply just search up a Youtube video of your specific Toshiba TV and Backlight Broken Repair. Now, Youtube will offer you a range of different videos from different creators who can walk you through step by step on how to repair your backlight.
If you are not comfortable doing so, you can also go into any repair store such as Best Buy and they can repair your Toshiba TV and possibly even travel to your home to repair it.
10. TV Panel Issue
Your Toshiba TV might also not be turning on because there is a TV Panel issue. This means that something internally in your Toshiba TV is broken and this is why you cannot turn it on.
These breaks might be loose wiring, a panel is loose or disconnected, or maybe even the screen has experienced some sort of damage. In these instances, they are very common but are fairly hard to determine if you are not an expert on tv panels.
However, you can call in any technological experts to look into and potentially fix this issue for you. They will be able to tell you exactly what tv panel issue you are facing and if your Toshiba TV can be saved or if you will need a new tv altogether.
11. Sleep timer
If you used the sleep timer to turn off your Toshiba TV, you might have to put in some more effort to turn it back on rather than just using your remote and pressing power. The first thing you should try is to use the buttons on your Toshiba TV to turn it back on.
If this does not work, try unplugging your TV and leaving it unplugged for a couple of minutes. Once you plug it back in, use the buttons on your Toshiba TV again instead of the remote to try and turn it back on.
This should get your Toshiba TV turned back on after you used the sleep timer feature to turn it off.
12. Capacitor Issue
Your Toshiba TV could potentially be not turning on because of some internal capacitor issues. If this is the case for you, this means that the electrical components used in your Toshiba TV are not functioning properly.
These capacitor issues could be caused by a lot of different things and will present themselves in various different ways as well. Again, they are very common but are fairly hard to determine if you are not an expert on tv systems.
However, you can call in any technological experts to look into and potentially fix this issue for you
13. Standby Mode
Your Toshiba TV may also be stuck in Standby mode which is mode your tv can go into that is sort of an in-between stage of being powered off versus on. If your Toshiba TV is in this mode, it might be stuck on Standby and that is why it is not turning on.
To fix this, unplug your TV and leave it unplugged for a couple of minutes. Then, plug it back in to see if it will finally turn on.
14. TV Damaged and You Don’t Know What to Do
Fix – Replace Toshiba TV
The issues with your television not turning on may just be caused by your Toshiba TV directly. If your Toshiba TV is directly the cause, the only solution you will have is a replacement tv.
If these issues have risen shortly after you purchased either your Toshiba TV, you can send in your device to Toshiba for a replacement if you purchased warranty or insurance on your Toshiba TV and are still in the time frame of said warranty or insurance.
If you did not purchase either of these, you will sadly have to buy a replacement Toshiba TV so you can get back to enjoying watching your programs on your tv.
Fix 2 – Contact Toshiba
If all else is still failing and you just want to enjoy your new action movie to its fullest potential with your Toshiba TV, reaching out to the Toshiba customer support is another solution you can try.
