Tiktok Black Screen? Try These 11 Fixes

Tiktok Black Screen

You’ve hopped onto TikTok, and the video you’re trying to watch is showing a black screen with the TikTok logo. This situation will take the batteries out of your clock since many users have been experiencing this problem.

There are many different reasons why this could occur, from internet connection to a bug in the program. We have got the fixes for it.

Why is My TikTok Blank?

1. Poor Internet Connection

In this modern world where you can pay for your coffee and research good coffee brands on the same device, it can be easy to forget to question if you are indeed connected to the internet, seeing as we are almost always connected in one form or another.

However, just because you do not think of it does not mean that it cannot become a problem. This is something to consider when dealing with issues on apps or sites, as all of them require an internet connection in order to utilize them at all.

Even if you are connected, this can still spell trouble as some online actions require a better internet connection than others.

For example, if I was trying to watch a YouTube video and text a friend about a recent game that came out nine times out of ten, the text is going to load quicker as it requires less data from the internet connection to load up compared to the YouTube video.

Bearing this information in mind, are you sure your internet connection is strong enough for what you are attempting to do?

Fix – Turn Your WI-FI Off Then On

When experiencing issues with your internet connection, be it a poor connection or no connection at all; it is a wise method to turn off your WiFi and then turn it back on.

This can help the internet connection essentially restart with its processes. also remember your WiFi internet connection has to be sent to your modem (or receiver) from your ISP (Internet Service Provider), and then it is distributed to all the devices in your home that are connected to the WiFi through the router.

Therefore there can be an issue somewhere along the way. That is why it is good to turn off your WiFi and turn it back on, giving it the chance to locate the issue and resolve it.

Now, if you are on an iPhone or Android, this is a quite easy fix as all you have to do is: Swipe down your notifications bar and then find your WiFi icon, select the WiFi icon to turn it off and after select it again to turn it back on.

This should solve the internet connection issue.

If you are on your PC, you can easily do this also simply by: Go down to your tool bar where it shows your WiFi internet connection (usually the bottom right hand corner of the screen), then select the WiFi connection and turn it to “Off” then simply turn it back to “On’.

That is it, this should resolve the internet connection problem.

Fix 2 – Switch from WI-FI to Data

When having this internet connection issue, with the connection being poor or not connecting at all; it can sometimes be best to switch from the WiFi connection to your cellular service data.

You may assume there is no difference between these two internet connections. However, WiFi allows your phone or tablet to connect to the Internet via a router. You need to be in the range of a router and connect to the network in order to access the Internet.

Cellular data allows your phone or tablet to connect to the Internet via a cell phone signal. With this newfound information, you can see how this could make a difference.

Luckily, this fix can be done easily; all you need to do is: Swipe down your notifications bar and then select the WiFi icon to turn it off (if it is not already off), then simply select your mobile data icon to turn it on.

You have now switched to your cellular mobile data, and this very well could make the difference, especially if the WiFi connection was too weak for what you were attempting to do.

Fix 3 – Turn Off VPN

While a VPN (Virtual Private Network) can be highly useful, it can, unfortunately, slow down your internet connection speed.

Simply put, a VPN will slow your internet connection down because your internet traffic is going through the VPN server: it’s an extra step in the process.

However, a premium VPN like “NordVPN” is so fast that you won’t normally notice any increased latency; the slowdown is usually imperceptible for the user.

With that said, sometimes the latency can be very noticeable and can bring your internet connection speed to a snail’s pace; which can be very inconvenient for anyone, especially if you are trying to enjoy some TikTok videos.

2. TikTok Is Down

Servers crash for various reasons, from faulty RAMs and power supply glitches to physically damaged hard drive platters and buggy firmware upgrades.

And while predictive analytics can proactively identify issues and estimate when a piece of equipment is due to fail, unexpected hardware failure often leads to downtime.

Now that we know why a server can go down or crash, what can we do about it and the answer may not be what you want to hear.

Fix – Wait For TikTok To Go Back Up

Unfortunately, when a server goes down or crashes, there is nothing you can do from your end aside from waiting it out.

This can be quite frustrating though it is very necessary, especially when the server is put into downtime in order to perform maintenance, and unless you are a skilled IT there is nothing you can do.

Seeing as the server and the IT’s need time to fix the problem that caused the crash in the first place, this can be a good time to prepare your content.

Maybe if you are a content creator on TikTok or possibly go water your thirsty houseplants, any way to fill the time. Also how long the server will be down varies as well depending on the issue.

This could be a couple of minutes to a couple of hours (in some extreme cases). Do not let this discourage you though. The app or site will be back up eventually. You just have to find a way to fill your time until it is back up.

3. There’s A Bug

It is very possible that this black screen on TikTok is due to a bug in the program, if you are not familiar with what we mean by “bug”; here is a quick summarization: A bug refers to an error, fault or flaw in any computer program or a hardware system.

A bug produces unexpected results or causes a system to behave unexpectedly. In short, it is any behavior or result that a program or system gets but it was not designed to do.

Knowing this, you can see how this could cause the TikTok black screen issue as it may have to do with their system of “scrolling” through other users’ content.

This bug could cause essentially a “glitch up” in the scrolling system that causes it to filter out and in turn give you a blank black screen (sometimes with the audio still going). Keep this in mind as we follow through on the following fixes for this problem.

Fix – Log Out Then Back In

When having problems with a bug in the system or program, it can sometimes be best to log out of TikTok and then sign back in.

There are cases where this can be an effective way to clear out the bug, as you are temporarily closing your account and then opening it again.

This can provide the program a chance to essentially “sniff” out the problem (the bug) and resolve it. Now, in order to log out of TikTok:

Start by opening your TikTok application (app), then select your account icon in the bottom right corner of the screen. This will take you to your profile page.

Then find the three stacked dots in top right corner of the screen and select them; this will drop down an options menu.

Scroll down to the bottom and here you will find the “Log Out” option, select this option then TikTok will ask you to confirm this action, go ahead and confirm by tapping “Yes”.

After this log out process, it will take you to a page where you can sign back into your TikTok account. That is how you log out and sign back in on TikTok, and while it may be somewhat inconvenient, this can help when experiencing a bug with the system or program.

Fix 2 – Use TikTok on Browser and See If Black Screen Goes Away

Another viable method when experiencing this black screen issue on TikTok, is to use TikTok through your browser rather than the app.

You may wonder “Well, what is the difference?” and you may be surprised to find out; An app, or software application, isn’t directly accessible on the internet.

Rather, it must be downloaded on a smartphone or tablet. Mobile websites are responsive sites that automatically scale to fit the screen size of your viewer’s device.

Bearing this in mind, you may be able to see how using the site through your browser can be better for this particular issue; as mobile websites automatically scale to fit your screen size.

Therefore if there is a bug causing issues with the scaling of the app and or the format that the videos are presented in, you should be able to bypass this bug by going onto the site through your browser.

This is also simple to do as well, as all you have to do is: Close out your TikTok app, then proceed to your browser (Chrome, Safari ect.) Then in your browser’s search bar enter “tiktok.com“, then tap on the site.

This should let you right in and if not you can log in with the appropriate information. This will help with the bug issue and hopefully keep you safe from the black screen of TikTok.

Fix 3 – Update TikTok to Get Rid Of Bugs

When speaking of applications (apps) it is very important to note that they do indeed require updates.

Updating your apps to the latest version gives you access to the latest features and improves app security and stability. Example: If Google determines that an app update fixes a critical security vulnerability, they may make certain app updates.

When having these applicaton (app) problems, it is important to remember that these apps are coming out with updates all of the time; there are problems and issues with the apps all of the time.

So sometimes, it can be best to just kick back and wait for them to come out with a fix for said problem.
