If you are trying to message someone on Facebook through their messaging service, you may be receiving a message saying “Message Not Sent. This Person Isn’t Receiving Messages Right Now” or “This Person Isn’t Receiving Calls or Voice Messages Right Now”.
There are many different reasons why you are getting this response, such as maybe you were blocked, you have not added this person as a friend, there is just a bug causing this issue, and you need to update your Messenger app, and so many other possibilities.
Receiving this response can be incredibly annoying, especially if the message you are trying to send is pretty time sensitive, and just in general, if you want to be able to communicate with this person.
While this problem may be very irritating, there are some quick solutions that you can easily try to make it so that your message finally goes through and you can properly talk to this person through Messenger.
What Does This Person Isn’t Receiving Messages Right Now Mean
1.They’ve Blocked You Messenger But Not Facebook Itself
Fix – Ask Them to Unblock You
If the reason you cannot send a message to someone through Messenger and are only being told that “This Person Isn’t Receiving Calls or Voice Messages Right Now”, or “This Person Isn’t Receiving Messages Right Now”, is because you are blocked on Messenger, simply asking them to unblock you will allow you to finally be able to message them.
To do this, all you have to do is post on their Facebook wall and make the post private so no one else has to see you asking them to unblock you on Messenger.
Even though they have blocked you on Messenger, they have not blocked you on Facebook so they will still be able to see the post that you have posted on their wall, and then they can unblock you if they would like to on Messenger, allowing you to be able to message them finally and avoid getting those annoying responses instead.
2. They’ve Blocked You on Facebook
Fix – Ask Them to Unblock You
If the reason you cannot send a message to someone through Messenger and are only being told that “This Person Isn’t Receiving Calls or Voice Messages Right Now”is because you are blocked on Messenger as well as Facebook, the only solution once again will be through asking them to unblock on you on Facebook so that your message can be sent to them.
Since you have virtually no way of contacting them through Facebook because you are blocked from their actual Facebook page and through Messenger, you have to ask them to unblock you in another way.
If you know them in person, you can ask them in person. If you know someone who knows them pretty well when you do not, you can also ask this person to ask them to unblock you.
Additionally, if you are not blocked through other forms of social media, you can utilize apps such as Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, or various others to be able to ask them to unblock you.
If you have their number, you can also text or call them and ask them to unblock you. Having them unblock you on Facebook and Messenger is the only way to get your message through.
3. You’re Not Friends With the Users
Fix – Add Them As A Friend
Another reason that you may be receiving the “This Person Isn’t Receiving Calls or Voice Messages Right Now”, or “This Person Isn’t Receiving Messages Right Now” message is because you are not actually friends with this person that you are trying to message.
This may be because you have unknowingly removed your friend, or they may have removed you, or you were never friends to begin with, which is why your message is not sent to them. To solve this, you will have to add them as a friend on Facebook.
To do this just go to the profile of the person who you are trying so hard to send a message to.
1. If there is the option to Request Friend, this is good news. They did not block you, one of you just accidentally unfriended the other or never had each other as friends.
2. Simply just tap that Request Friend button.
3. Once they accept your friend request, you will officially be friends with them on Facebook.
Now that you are friends with the person that you are trying to message, it should hopefully go through so that you can contact them through messenger.
4. There’s A Bug
Fix – Restart Messenger
First, try to simply restart the Messenger app if you still seeing the message. To do so, clear the Messenger app out of the history of the device that you are using. Once you have cleared out of it, wait a couple of minutes so it can fully restart, and then reopen the Messenger app on your device.
This will help refresh and reboot the system, which could potentially allow the Messenger app to finally start working, and you can get back to sending a message to whoever it is you were originally trying to talk to.
Fix 2 – Restart Your Device
Doing this will vary depending on the device that you are using since every device has different buttons and settings.
If you are unsure on how to turn off your device, just look it up, and you will be met with plenty of information on how to turn off the device you are using.
Once you turn off your device, leave it off for a couple of minutes so it can fully restart. After a few minutes, you can turn your device back on, which will complete the reset.
Now that your device is powered back on and you have officially reset it, open your Messenger app back up.
This reset will have hopefully allowed for your device to figure itself out, and your message will potentially now go through instead of you being told that you are unable to message that person at the moment.
Fix 3 – Log Out Then Back In
Another quick and easy solution if Facebook is not letting you send any messages to certain people instead of your message going through is to let the system refresh, again, by logging out. If you use the app, follow these steps to log out.
1. To do so on the app, click on the three lines in the bottom right corner and then scroll all the way down.
2. At the very bottom there will be an option saying Log Out.
3. Just click that and you are officially logged out.
4. For the website, tap the arrow in the top right corner.
5. The last option from the dropdown menu will say Log Out.
6. Once you click that, you are logged out from the website.
Give both the app and the website a couple of minutes, and then log right back in. This will help give Messenger a quick reset and allow you to send your message to that person finally.
Also, if you are afraid to log out due to forgetting your password, you can easily send a reset link to the email associated with your account and get logged back in.
Fix 4 – Update Messenger to Get Rid Of Bugs
To see if there is an update available, just open up the app store, play store, or wherever else you download apps onto your device. Go to the updates section and see if the Messenger app is in need of one.
If it is, go ahead and update it. Once updated, see if you can now send a message to the person who was causing issues in your Messenger app. If there was no update available, this is not the cause of your issues with the Messenger app.
Fix 5 – Wait For Them To Come Out With A Fix
If a bug is the cause of your issues or Messenger is just experiencing a shut down which is why you are being told the message, the only option you have is to sit back and wait for Facebook or Messenger staff to solve the issue.
You may remember a very dark time, back in 2021, when Facebook was shut down for almost seven hours. It was horrible, and we hope the app is never down for that long again.
It even caused economic problems for businesses and companies that rely on social media for customers.
Regardless, if the Facebook or Messenger system is at fault for your inability to send a message, only Facebook or Messenger can fix it so you will have to wait until they can do just that.
Fix 6 – Contact Messenger Support
Your final Hail Mary when all else has failed you is to contact Facebook directly. You can do this on the app or the website.
1. Through the app, click on the three lines in the bottom right corner and scroll until you see Help and Support.
2. Select that option and Help Center will appear in the dropdown menu.
4. You can then search something similar to “This Person Isn’t Receiving Calls or Voice Messages Right Now”, or “This Person Isn’t Receiving Messages Right Now” in the search box and
Facebook will give you various helpful options.
If you are not on the app and instead use the website Facebook.com, follow these steps instead.
1. On the website, you click the arrow in the upper right corner.
2. Select Help and Support.
3. Then choose the Help Center and type in the same thing from the app. If this is still not solving your problem, you can also select Report a Problem in both the app and the website instead of Help Center and then pick Something Went Wrong.
You can then type in your problem of the problem causing message and Facebook will directly be able to help you. This will hopefully allow you to finally be able to send messages to the person you are trying to message.
How to Know If Someone Blocked You on Messenger
1. See If You Can Search for Their Username on Facebook
One of the tell tale signs that you have in fact been blocked on Messenger and this is why you are receiving the message saying “This Person Isn’t Receiving Messages Right Now” is if you are unable to search for their username at all on Facebook.
When you open up the Facebook app or go to Facebook.com, you will see a way to search on Facebook that is shown with a magnifying glass in the upper right corner of your screen.
If you click on this icon, you should be able to search for anyone who uses Facebook.
However, if you try to search for this person you are messaging and literally nothing appears even though you know that they have a Facebook account, this means that you have been blocked.
You can search for any other account, but for some reason, have an inability to locate their account.
This is a side effect of being blocked as the person who blocked you does not want you to be able to find them on Facebook or Messenger. This will continue to happen until the user decides to unblock you on Facebook or Messenger.
2. Your Message to Them Doesn’t Deliver
Another way you can tell if someone has blocked you on Messenger when you are trying to message them is if your message does not even deliver to the user.
When using Messenger, you should notice that any message you send will have a tiny little delivered sign underneath it.
If you are trying to message someone and are being met with these messages, check to see if that little delivered has appeared under the message that created those responses.
If it has not, this usually means you have been blocked as your message will not even be delivered to them. This is another side effect of being blocked by someone on Messenger as they blocked you because they do not want you to have access to their Facebook account.
This includes them not wanting to receive any message from you, thus anything that you try to send to them will not deliver to ensure that you can not contact them through the Facebook or Messenger app.
You will only be able to have your messages go through if they decide to unblock you on Facebook or Messenger.
3. Click Their Tag on A Post They’re Tagged In and If It Says Facebook Users, You’ve Been Blocked
If you believe someone on Messenger or Facebook has blocked you, check to see if you were really blocked is by clicking on any posts on Facebook that they were tagged in.
Once you are able to locate a post that the person you are trying to message has been tagged in, click on where they were tagged.
If you can see their account and go to it, you have not been blocked, and there is another reason why you cannot message them through Messenger.
However, if you click on their tag and nothing appears, meaning instead of seeing their account, you see Facebook User, this means you have in fact been blocked.
If someone blocked you on Facebook or Messenger, they do not want you to have access to their account in any shape or form.
This includes being able to see what they were tagged in as a way to access their information. The only way you will be able to ever message them again is if they ever unblock you on either Facebook or Messenger.
4. Look for Them in a Comment Section and Click Their Name, If It Says Facebook User, You’ve Been Blocked
Another way that you can try to figure out if you have been blocked on Messenger is by going through people’s comment sections on Facebook. You will need to find a post where you know this person who you have been trying to message will have commented on.
Once you can locate these posts, go find their comment. Usually, you will be able to see the account’s name who has posted this comment. If you can see their names, they did not block you, which is not why your messages are failing to send to them.
However, if their name does not show up with the comment, and instead you see Facebook User, this does mean that you have been blocked on Facebook or Messenged. Thiis individual does not want you to be able to have any sorts of interactions with their account.
This means won’t see what they have commented on posts, let alone message them. This will continue to happen until they decide to unblock you on Messenger or Facebook.
