This message comes up quite frequently on Snapchat and it can be quite annoying. Pretty much every Snapchat users has seen this message when they try and send a snap or try and update their chats list. Each time this message comes up, it stops you from sending and receiving messages which is the main purpose of the app.
The Reason the Could not Refresh Message comes up
The main reason why you’re going to see this error is due to the fact that you have a weak internet connection, or you don’t have an internet connection at all.
Even though you may see the wi-fi signal at the top of your device, it doesn’t mean that your router is connected to the internet properly. If you can access any other apps that require internet without any problems, then it looks like Snapchat servers are down.
When their servers are down, it may look like there’s an issue with your internet connection, but this simply isn’t the case.
1. Turn your WI-FI off then on
The first thing you can do to try and fix this problem is to restart your wi-fi connection.
This is a relatively simple thing to do and it’s probably the first thing you do when you notice a problem with your WI-FI connection.
When you restart the wi-fi connection, it can get rid of any glitches that were causing your wi-fi not to work properly.
After you’ve completed this step, the next thing you need to do is to go to Snapchat and see if this fixed the problem and if it didn’t, go to the next step.
2. Switch from WI-FI to Mobile Data
After you’ve turned your wifi off then on, the next thing you need to do is to switch from wifi to data.
Since there’s an issue with the internet connection coming from your router, a good step to take would be to switch the source of internet. Mobile data is more of a reliable source of the internet than Wi-Fi is.
The reason this is is that wifi has a limited range. It only works within the range of your router. Data doesn’t have a limited range and it can be accessed anywhere which makes it more reliable.
After you’ve made the switch, try and access Snapchat again and see if the message has been removed.
If it hasn’t gone, to the next step.
3. Check if Snapchat is down
The next thing to do is to check if the Snapchat server is down. The app runs on servers all over the world so that it’s accessible to everyone.
Once the server goes down or there’s an issue with it, some people won’t have access to the app depending on the location of the server. There’re a few ways to check if their server is down. If you can access apps and browsers that require internet and they work fine, and Snapchat is the only app that’s not working properly, it looks like there’s an issue with the server.
The second way you could tell if their server are down is by everyone around you complaining that their Snapchat isn’t working. You may also see a lot of complaints on social media such as Instagram saying that their Snapchats aren’t sending.
The third way to tell if Snapchat servers are down is by simply doing a google search asking, “is Snapchat down”. You’ll then see a website called downdetector which will tell you if there is a surge in complaints about Snapchat.
The best way to deal with this is by simply waiting.
Within a few hours, Snapchat should have fixed the problem, and this will allow you to use the app properly again.
