Snapchat could not connect

I’m going to show you what to do when Snapchat says ‘Could Not Connect’ on your iPhone or iPad.

Snapchat may not work even when you’re connected to WI-FI.

There are many reasons why you’ll start to receive the ‘Could Not Connect’ message and I’m going to show you several ways you can fix this.

The main reason Snapchat shows the Could not Connect message is because of your connection to the internet.

Even if you’re connected to WI-FI, your router may not be connected to the internet.

Turn your router on, then off to try and force it to connect to the internet.

Down below are more ways to get rid of the ‘Could not Connect’ message.

Why does the ‘Could Not Connect’ Message Show up

There are plenty of reasons Snapchat can stop working randomly.

This problem is known for happening very often within Snapchat and the issue starts to circulate around social media with everyone saying Snapchat is down.

When Snapchat says ‘Could not Connect’, this can be because of network issues as well as maintenance issues.

People with jailbroken iPhones have this problem as well.

I’ll also give you a solution to fix the could not connect message when your device is jailbroken.

Update Snapchat if one is Available

The first solution to stop this message from coming up is to update the Snapchat app.

When there is an update available for Snapchat, it’s likely that there is a bug in the current version you’re using.

New updates are made to fix bugs and to add new features.

If you’re not using the current version of Snapchat, you can run into a lot of problems.

For example, you’ll receive the ‘Could Not Connect’ message, your snaps won’t send, or the app will continue to crash.

Here’s how to update Snapchat if there’s one available:

  • Go to the App Store
  • Tap on the ‘Update’ tab at the bottom right of the screen
  • Locate the Snapchat app and click the Update button next to it

Once you’ve updated the app, open Snapchat to see if Snapchat is working and if the error message has gone.

Reset Network Settings

The next step you want to take when Snapchat isn’t working is to ‘Reset Network Settings’.

There could be a network problem if Snapchat isn’t working even when it’s connected to WI-FI.

If you know your WI-FI is working properly but Snapchat isn’t working regardless, you’ll have to reset your network settings.

If you want to reset all of your network settings:

  • Go to the Settings app
  • Go to the General settings
  • Scroll all the way down and tap on reset
  • Tap on ‘Reset Network Settings’
  • You’ll receive a pop-up, then tap on ‘Reset Network Settings’ again

Resetting your network settings is going to clear all the settings you’ve made since you got your iPhone.

Your WI-FI settings, Bluetooth settings, and wallpapers will be reset.

When your iPhone or iPad boots back up, you’ll need to go back to settings and enter your WI-FI passwords.

Once you have done this, go back into Snapchat and see if it‘s working.

If the could not connect message still comes back up, go to the next step.

Check if Snapchat Servers are Down

This is definitely the most common reason why Snapchat will be down and won’t work properly.

Snapchat usually does routine maintenance and when they do this, you won’t be able to use Snapchat properly until they’re done.

When Snapchat is down due to routine maintenance, you’ll see a rush of complaints on social media with everyone having the same issue.

To check whether Snapchat Servers are down, you can easily do a search in Google saying, ‘is Snapchat down’.

You see a few news websites saying Snapchat servers are down.

If you are active on social media, you’ll either see your friends talking about it, or you can go to the Instagram search bar, type in Snapchat, then click on tags.

You’ll see posts saying thing such as “is your Snapchat working?”.

If this is the case, you’ll have to wait for their servers to go back online.

This can take up to a few hours but once it’s done, try going back to Snapchat to check if the could not connect message is gone.

How to Fix ‘Could not Connect’ Message with a Jailbroken iPhone

If your iPhone or iPad is Jailbroken, and you can’t log in, you may be facing different issues compared to the issues I’ve mentioned above.

Whenever you try and log in, it won’t let you and the could not connect message will pop up.

I’m going to show you what to do if this is your situation.

Some apps can detect when a device is jailbroken, and this may cause that app to crash once they detect this.

The first thing you need to do is to download an xcon Cydia tweak from the Cydia app.

This app was created to bypass App Store apps when they detect that your iPhone or iPad is jailbroken. If you already have xcon downloaded, make sure you delete it because this may cause Snapchat to stop working as well.

Once you’ve followed the steps above, go to the Cydia app and search for ‘NoSub’.

This app is going to the disable the substrate from loading in apps. In order to download and install NoSub, you’ll need to:

  • Go to rep.hackyouriphone.org
  • Install HackyouriPhone
  • Add it to the ‘Sources’ tab
  • Once you’ve done this, hit ‘install’ then confirm

This will download NoSub. You can now go back into the Snapchat app and check if you can log in.

Delete and Re-install Snapchat

If none of the steps above have worked, you can go ahead and Delete the Snapchat app.

The problem may be within Snapchat itself so deleting and then re-installing it will refresh the app and solve any issues within the app.

To delete and then re-install Snapchat:

  • Hold on the app and wait for the ‘x’ to come up
  • Tap on the ‘x’ and click ‘Delete’ to confirm your decision (this may take a while)
  • Go back to the App Store and download Snapchat

Once Snapchat is installed, try and log into the app and see if you can log in without the could not connect message coming up.
