The Potter Saga

With 8 movies in total, every movie encompasses an entire year of Harry’s schooling at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, except for the final year, which breaks up Harry’s 7th, and last, year at Hogwarts into two parts.

1. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone is adapted from J.K. Rowling’s first Harry Potter novel, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (later renamed “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” for an American audience). It is Harry Potter’s first year at Hogwarts.

“Fantastic Beasts” Series

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them follows Newt Scamander, an English wizard that would later go on to write a best-selling book of the same title, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. In it, you follow his attempts at recovering fantastic beasts that have escaped. While it is its own contained story, it does, however, have a handful of recurring characters from the Potter Saga, only just younger, like Albus Dumbledore.

“Fantastic Beasts” is not adapted from a novel like Harry Potter. Instead, “Fantastic Beasts” was a textbook written within the fictional world of the Wizarding World. J.K. Rowling penned it for charity.

1. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

The first of the “Fantastic Beasts” series. While mostly focused on the capturing of fantastic beasts by Newt Scamander, it serves as a jumping off point for the rest of the series’ focus: Newt Scamander and, eventually, Grindelwald.

2. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

The second installment of the “Fantastic Beasts” series. This time, it follows Newt Scamander (naturally) but starts to unfold the series’ main focus: Gellert Grindelwald.
