Oops We Couldn't Find Matching Credentials Snapchat

A problem that Snapchat users have encountered on several occasions while attempting to log into their accounts is that they are met with the error, “Oops We Couldn’t Find Matching Credentials.” So, what exactly does this mean?

What Does Matching Credentials Mean on Snapchat?

The Matching credentials message on Snapchat is a login error pointed out by a subredditor in the SnapchatHelp subbreddit group.

The scenario goes like this, Snapchat logs you out of your account, and when you try and log back in after putting your login credentials, it says, ‘Oops! We could not find matching credentials.’

This happens even though you’ve put in the proper credentials. Sometimes even after changing your password, you may still receive the matching credentials error.

Why Does Snapchat Say ‘Oops We Couldn’t Find Matching Credentials’?

The Snapchat Matching Credentials Problem is a widespread error that affects Snapchat users worldwide. The following error message is displayed to users when they attempt to enter their accounts: “Oops, We Couldn’t Find Matching Credentials.”

The Matching Credentials error implies that a login error has occurred; however, this issue frequently happens even when users use the proper credentials.

A common cause for getting locked out of a user’s account is that the program detected suspicious behavior on the account.

Furthermore, it may be why someone was attempting to access your account information from an unknown place or that the program was receiving several account access attempts from radically diverse areas simultaneously.

1. Someone Has Compromised Your Account

Another reason for being locked out of your account is that Snapchat has sensed that someone has been trying to gain access to your account from an unknown location.

Or another case is that Snapchat has simultaneously pinged access attempts from very far locations.

Suppose someone is trying to access your account while you’re using Snapchat. As a security feature, you will be locked out of your account because Snapchat will determine that one of the attempts to access your account is shady. In order to fix this, you’ll need to reset your password.

Resetting your Snapchat password is the best thing to do as Snapchat has suffered massive account hacks in the past.

Suppose you use the same username and password combination on other websites that may have been compromised. In that case, it’s pretty easy for your details to be compromised.

2. There’s A Bug

If you’re getting the Oops We Couldn’t Find Matching Credentials, and you can’t log in, it might be because Snapchat has a failure in the system. When there’s a system failure, it locks you out of your account even though your username and password are correct.

This means that you cannot do much to fix the problem apart from trying out a few troubleshooting steps or waiting for the problem to go away. Bugs sometime’s come about in apps, and they can cause unexpected errors.

So if you notice that the matching credentials error is coming up when you’ve already entered the correct password, you can put it down to a bug or glitch that’s out of your control.

3. The App Is Out Of Date

If Snapchat is out of date, then this could be why you’re getting the error. You need to have an app that’s up to date so that you avoid getting the login in error.

Glitches and bugs manifest more when an app is outdated, so making sure that you’ve updated the app will allow Snapchat to reaccess your account without showing you the error.

How to Fix “Oops, We Couldn’t Find Matching Credentials.”

There are various reasons why you may be experiencing difficulty logging in to your Snapchat account. To fix the “oops, we couldn’t find matching credentials” on Snapchat, here are a few fixes you can try:

1. Check If Your Account Is Locked

You may be experiencing this error message because Snapchat has locked your account. To resolve the issue, you will need to do the following. Select Forgot Password from the drop-down menu.

Please select the option to alter it through email from the drop-down menu. The email should send you to a screen that reads ‘Manage My Account.

If you don’t see this, try refreshing your browser. Select ‘Unlock Account’ from the yellow drop-down menu. It should check to see if it has been unlocked. After that, attempt to log in again.

2. Change Your Password

Someone may be attempting to access your account simultaneously as you’re using your Snapchat account to communicate with you.

Because the app has determined that at least one of the account access attempts is suspicious, the account has been locked as a precautionary security step.

Users have reported a solution to click “change password” and then follow the procedures to re-establish access to Snapchat when the problem has been resolved.

Because Snapchat has been the victim of large-scale account breaches in the past, this may be the best approach.

Nefarious hackers who attempt to obtain access to any of your data may have intercepted your username and password if you use the same username and password combinations on other websites that may have been hacked.

To change your Snapchat password:

1. Open Snapchat. To start fixing the Oops We Couldn’t Find Matching Credentials on Snapchat, you need to start by launching the app first.

2. Tap Use Other Account. Once you’ve launched the Snapchat app, you’ll see the login screen.

Even though you’re facing the error Oops, We could not find matching credentials, you may be thinking that there’s no point trying to log in because it hasn’t worked the last few times.

Instead, you can look for the Use Other Account option and tap on it. This option is usually in the bottom right corner of the screen.

3. Use the Forgot Your Password option. Once you’re done clicking Use Other Account, a new window will be launched asking for different details compared to the usual login credentials.

From here is where you’ll have the chance to change your password but before this, you’ll need to enter your Snapchat username so that your account can be identified.

You can also enter the email address that you used to sign up. Once you’re done, select the Forgot your password option.

4. Reset your password via the sent email. Once you’ve clicked the Forgot your password option, you’ll need to reset the password from the menu that’s popped up. This new screen that’s launched will load two options.

One is the via phone option, and the other is the via email option. You can use either of these options to reset your Snapchat password and get rid of the Oops We could not find matching credentials error on Snapchat.

For an easier process, it’s recommended that you use the via email option as a way to recover your password.

If for someone reason you’ve enabled two-factor authentication and you don’t have access to the phone that you used for it, you can bypass the Snapchat verification code.

5. Enter your email address. Once you’ve chosen the option via email on the reset password page, you’ll see a field that’s asking you for your email address.

Here, you’ll need to put the email it’s asking for and ensure it’s the same email you use for Snapchat. Next, you want to click on the Submit button and confirm your decision.

6. Find the password reset link. Once you’ve submitted your email, you need to look for the password reset link in your email. Here, it would help if you kept in mind that the link could have ended up in the junk folder.

If that is the case, and you can’t find the email in your mail inbox, you’ll need to look for it in your junk/spam folder. When you see the email, it’s pretty self-explanatory.

The email will be from Team Snapchat, and the subject link will be Snapchat Password Reset. If you can’t find the email anywhere, try and repeat the submission process.

7. Tap on the link. Once you’ve found the link, you’ll need to tap on it, and it’ll take you to the Snapchat page.

8. Change your password. Once you tap on the link, you’ll be taken to the page where you can reset your Snapchat password. Here, you’ll notice fields that include the option New Password and Confirm Password.

First, enter the new password in the New Password field. It is advised that your password be at least eight characters in length, contain both uppercase and lowercase letters, digits, and symbols, and be unique.

Once you’ve chosen a password, you’ll need to confirm the new password by entering the new password in the Confirm Password field. After confirming your password, tap on the Save option, and your password will now be reset.

9. Log back in. You’ll now need to go back to the Snapchat app where you’ll be taken to the login screen. This is where you’ll have the chance to log in with your new login credentials to see if you can log in without it saying Oops, We Couldn’t Find Matching Credentials.

3. Keep Trying to Log In

A Reddit user posted on the Snapchathelp subreddit saying that he got back into his account by continuously changing his password and trying to log in. To do this, get the password reset link sent to your email.

From here, if you need to verify your identity, go ahead. Once your identity is verified, you’ll need to enter and confirm a new password.

Once it’s confirmed, go and log in. If you’ve been trying this, keep trying, and you might get lucky and get back into your account.

4. Unlock Your Snapchat Account

Another Reddit user posted that they got back into their account using this link accounts.snapchat.com/accounts/unlock. From here, click on forget password and choose a new password.

Once you log in on here page, click unlock account, then click unlock. You should get a message that says success.

From here, you’ll need to go back to Snapchat and log in with the new password and you should get into your account successfully without the Oops, We Couldn’t Find Matching Credentials error showing up.

5. Log In From Another Phone

If you have another phone, you can try and log in from there. People have reported that when they’ve used another phone to try and log into Snapchat, it works for them.

If you notice that it lets you log in from your replacement phone but not the original phone that you use Snapchat for, a glitch was causing the Oops, We Couldn’t Find Matching Credentials’.

6. Wait For Them To Come Out With A Fix

If you notice that Snapchat still can’t log in to Snapchat due to the Oops, We Couldn’t Find Matching Credentials.

If you’re noticing that the error still shows up after you’ve changed your password,  just know that this is a sitewide thing that many people will be experiencing, so you should just wait for Snapchat to come up with a solution.

7. Turn Your Phone Off then On

The first thing you can try and do to get rid of this message temporarily is to turn your device off simply. When you turn your device off and then on, it gets rid of the RAM, which provides your device with more storage space for the time being.

RAM stands for random access memory, and its memory allows you to load apps and other features quickly, so you don’t have to wait a long time.

Over a long period, this builds up and can take away a considerable amount of storage. When you turn your device on, apps may run slower, but your storage has been reduced for the time, and any potential bugs causing the error will be removed.

This step may remove the error message Oops, We Couldn’t Find Matching Credentials on Snapchat or it may not. If it manages to remove the message, it may come back again and if it does, come back to this article. Sometimes this may permanently remove the message, but If it doesn’t, go to the next step.

8. Update Snapchat

Many users experienced the credentials error, and Snapchat released a new version to fix the bug. Most app updates will be automatic, and you won’t have to worry about manually updating apps.

You may not be receiving the latest Snapchat update because your phone isn’t set up to receive automatic updates. Alternatively, if you decide to install the update for any reason, it’s as simple as navigating to your phone’s app store and selecting the updates option.

It is recommended to have automatic updates, but some people often choose what updates they want. If you are one of those, you need to find a way to know when updates are released.

Using Google Alerts, you may receive news reports about Snapchat updates practically as soon as they are reported and picked up by Google.

You may create an alert using the phrase “Snapchat update” as the subject. Aside from regularly monitoring the App Store or Play Store for updates, predicting when a new Snapchat version will become available might be difficult.

Several blogs cover technology and news items, including extensive app upgrades, as soon as they become relevant. Following these articles will help you learn when a new Snapchat update is ready and what new features you can expect to see from the update.

9. Delete the Snapchat Cache

In order to get rid of any bugs that could be causing the error, you can wipe your Snapchats cache.

Don’t worry, this isn’t going to wipe any of your messages, chats, memories, or anything like that; it’s just going to wipe the temporary files that are stored in Snapchats directory, and doing these will refresh the app as well as get rid of any bugs causing the login problem.

To wipe Snapchats cache:

1. Go to the Settings icon

2. Under ACCOUNT ACTIONS, click Clear Cache

3. Click on Clear All then Clear

4. Close and open the app

Clear Snapchat cache

After doing this, you need to close the Snapchat app from the multitasking switch and restart your phone.

This will ensure that your device gets rid of the bug, allowing Snapchat to function correctly and removing the ‘Oops, We Couldn’t Find Matching Credentials’.

Final Thoughts

Clearing the cache will not fix some of the glitches you experience when using apps. If you encounter an unusual error on Snapchat, you should check whether other users are experiencing the same problem.

Keep your passwords safe and keep up with Snapchat updates to avoid experiencing the “oops, we couldn’t find matching credentials” message.
