Users worry that using the Super Like feature may make them come across as too forward.
And, naturally, nobody wants to come across as too forward or desperate. Also, people who receive the Super Like may find it awkward, intrusive, or too much pressure from a stranger.
But the super liking feature is actually just an innocent and fun way to indicate to a user that you have a higher-than-average interest in them.
This comes in handy, especially when you come across a profile that you have a lot in common with and are eager to connect with them. Or, you simply just love their looks and would love to get to know them better.
As Tinder puts it, Super Like allows you to let a potential match know that they stand out for you, and a simple Like is just not enough.
On Bumble, the feature is called SuperSwipe, and its purpose is pretty much the same thing as on Tinder: letting the potential match know that you are strongly interested in them. Or, as Bumble puts it, “confidently interested” in them.
So, instead of being too forward, super liking is actually a handy feature to show potential matches that you find special among the other users on the platform.
Is Super Liking on Tinder or Bumble Weird?
This is a very subjective issue, and you are likely to get as many different responses as the number of people you ask. First of all, you need to understand the psychologies at play with the super liking feature.
If you are sending a Super Like, you are trying to indicate a very high level of interest in the person you Super Liked
If you are receiving a Super Like, you may feel special and flattered…or you may feel put off and think that the person is a loser
The way the receiver reacts to a Super Like also depends a lot on what they think about your profile, anyway.
If you are not someone that they would normally swipe right on, they are more likely to be put off by your Super Like. If you are someone that would normally interest them, they are more likely to feel flattered by your special interest in them
Some users who receive the Super Like also feel like they are guilt-tripped into liking you back because they know that you are likely to have paid for the Super Like
The point is that there are so many factors in play when it comes to super liking, so it’s pretty hard to say whether it is weird or not categorically. However, from our research, we have found that:
Tinder and Bumble feel that the super liking and super swiping features work a treat and increase the chances of matching.
But because there are many factors that affect matching on these platforms which are not taken into consideration, it is hard to accept this as the hard truth
Most users that we asked stated that even though they do not generally see super liking as weird, it makes little difference or has little influence over their decision to swipe right or left on the profile
How to Undo a Super Like on Tinder
If you Super Like someone on Tinder, you may want to undo it because you Super Liked by mistake, or you just had a second thought about it because you do not want to come across as too forward.
Whether you can undo a Super Like depends on whether you have already matched with the user or not. Here’s how:
If the user has swiped right back on you and you have matched, there is pretty much nothing you can do about the Super Like.
Well, apart from unmatching the person. If you do not want to unmatch them, you simply cannot undo the Super Like after you have matched.
And there’s nothing wrong with that. Once you have matched, what matters is how you conduct the ensuing conversation, and the Super Like fades into the background.
If the user is yet to swipe on you, you can use the Rewind feature to undo the Super Like. Rewind is a feature that allows you to undo a Like, Nope, and Super Like.
To use Rewind, just tap on the yellow icon on the main screen to bring back the profile and undo whatever action, such as Super Like, Like, or Nope, that you did.
To get Rewind, you must be a paid subscriber of either Tinder Plus, Tinder Gold, or Tinder Platinum.
1. Tap on your profile icon
2. Tap on Settings
3. Select Get Tinder Gold or Tinder Platinum or Tinder Plus
Things are a bit different on Bumble. If you SuperSwipe or just Like a profile, you cannot rewind to undo the action. So, a SuperSwipe is permanent on Bumble. You can only rewind if you swipe left and you have Bumble Boost or Bumble Premium subscription.
Can You Send a Like Instead of a Super Like on Tinder?
If you have not already Super Liked a profile on Tinder, then you can simply swipe right to like the profile. If you have already sent a Super Like, you can still change that to a normal like following the steps below:
Purchase Tinder Plus, Tinder Gold, or Tinder Platinum by tapping on your profile icon, tapping on Settings, and choosing your preferred subscription
Then, on the main swiping screen, click the yellow icon to bring back the last profile and then tap on Like or just swipe right. This will undo the Super Like and change it into just a simple Like instead.
The great thing is that when you do this, the Super Like you used is restored, and you can use it for another profile.
However, note that you can only undo a Super Like or any other action on the last profile you swiped right or left on. Any profile beyond that is gone for good.
Accidentally Sent a Super Like on Tinder? Here’s What to Do
There is nothing wrong with sending a Super Like on Tinder. We have found that it generally has only marginal influence over how people respond to you.
However, if you are really bothered about having accidentally sent a Super Like, you can undo it, as we have explained in the previous section.
However, you would need to subscribe to one of Tinder Plus, Tinder Gold, or Tinder Platinum to undo the Super Like.
Other than that, there is nothing you can do except cross your fingers and hope for the best or rue the lost Super Like if you feel the profile was not worth it.
How to Respond to a Super Like on Tinder
Some things you have to keep in mind about receiving a Super Like on Tinder include:
It is meant to be an innocent and fun expression of genuine interest in you. It is not a free feature, so people are generally intentional about using it. Therefore, you should not feel weird or creeped out by a Super Like
However, you should not feel compelled to reciprocate a Super Like just because you feel flattered or do not want to hurt the person’s feelings.
But if you are equally interested in the person that has given you a Super Like, then it’s a good idea also to indicate a high level of interest so that the connection is on level ground.
Connections and conversations that start this way have been found to last 70% longer.
How Many Super Likes Do You Get on Tinder
There are no totally free Super Likes on Tinder. To get Super Likes, you must either purchase them independently in packages or purchase a Tinder Gold or Tinder Platinum subscription to get 5 free Super Likes a week.
If you are purchasing Super Likes as a package, how many gets is up to you? You just need to choose from the package bundles.
If you are using Tinder Gold or Tinder Platinum, you must use your 5 free Super Likes within the week or forfeit them. As we explained earlier, the week starts from the day you subscribe to Tinder Gold or Tinder Platinum.
How Often Do You Get Super Liked on Tinder
How often you get Super Liked on Tinder depends on a number of things. For example, people who are very attractive tend to get a lot more Super Likes than others. However, it is usually people who are less attractive or self-confident that send Super Likes.
Confident or attractive people generally feel less need to send Super Likes because they are either sure to get liked back anyway or do not feel the need to indicate special interest in you.
Generally, though, Super Likes on Tinder isn’t something you are likely to receive often. On many occasions, they are sent in error. And because the user does not have a paid subscription, they are unable to undo the Super Like.
Another thing to keep in mind is that Super Like is a paid feature. And not many users actually pay for Tinder. And when they do pay, they are judicious about using the features. So, your chances of receiving a Super Like are further narrowed.
But this is not a big deal. Even if you never get a Super Like, it has nothing to do with your value. Most people just don’t bother with the feature in the first place.
