iPhone Phone App Not Working

The Phone app on iPhones is one of the most important apps. Everything is somewhat linked to this app. For instance, you want to make a call then you need to head to the Phone app. You want to find a contact then you will need to open the Phone app. You need to check phone log then again you will have to rely on the Phone app. In short, it is the type of app that almost every iPhone user access at least once a day.

Some iPhone users lately had this issue where they were unable to open the Phone app. it was either the screen going blank or the screen getting frozen whenever they tried to launch the Phone app. Given the significance of this app, all of these users were frustrated and demanded Apple to fix this issue ASAP. However, some of the iPhone users managed to address it all by themselves. Here are some of the methods that they applied for troubleshooting this issue.

Restart/Force Restart:

It is like stating the obvious, but a simple restart is the quickest troubleshooting technique whenever an iOS app isn’t working properly. However, the simple restart has a 50% success rate and therefore, users may have to go a step ahead. The force restart is the next option if a simple restart doesn’t help. Performing a force restart is different on different iPhone models. So, here is how you can force restart different iPhone models.

For iPhone 8 or Later:

Quickly press-release the volume up button, then press-release the volume down button in quick succession. Once done, press-hold the sleep/wake button until the Apple logo appears on the screen.

For iPhone 7 & 7 Plus:

Press-hold the sleep/wake button in tandem with volume down button for at least 7-10 seconds. Do not release them until the Apple logo appears on the screen.

For iPhone 6 Plus & Previous Models:

Press-hold the home and side/top button (as per the model) for 10 seconds. Do not release them until the Apple logo appears on the screen.

Update iOS:

If your iOS update is available and you haven’t updated it yet then you are asking for trouble by yourself. Delaying software updates can be dangerous as every new iOS update has some improvements which include bug fixes too. It may be that the Phone app isn’t working due to some minor glitch. These minor glitches usually get addressed automatically by updating the software. So, all you need to do is to check for an update and here is how to do it.

1. Go to the Settings on your iPhone.

2. Tap on the option General.

3. Tap on the option Software Update.

4. Now update the IOS by downloading and installing the latest update.

Reset Network Settings:

If the Phone app is crashing too often on your iPhone then it could be due to the Network Settings. The thing with iOS is that it is quite technical and understanding why a certain issue is occurring is quite difficult. So, instead of diagnosing the problem, it is better to opt for the solution. Here is what you need to do.

1. Go to the Settings on your iPhone.

2. Tap on the option General.

3. Tap on the option Reset which is at the bottom of General Settings.

4. Choose the option Reset Network Settings. Provide the passcode and let your device restart.

5. Upon restart, your network settings will be reset and the Phone app issue may well be addressed as well.

In addition to that, you can also choose the option Erase All Content and Settings if Reset Network Settings doesn’t work. However, opting for Erase All Content and Settings will wash all the data on your iPhone and restore it to factory settings as well. Make sure you create an iCloud backup before going for this method. You can also Restore via iTunes if you do not want to do it directly from iPhone.

Other Tips:

Force restart, resetting network settings, and iOS update should get the job done for you as this issue isn’t a complicated one. However, if they fail to deliver then you can try some other minor tricks such as enabling/disabling the Airplane Mode, battery recalibration and reset all settings to your advantage. Sometimes, these minor tricks troubleshoot issues which proper troubleshooting methods couldn’t.
