Instagram Live Not Working

The Problems You Could Be Having

1. Can’t Go Live on Instagram

One of the problems you could be having is that you cannot go live on Instagram from your account. If you are unsure how to go live on Instagram, follow these steps.

1. The first thing you will do is open up Instagram on any device that you are logged into. You will need to be logged in to an account or create an account to go live.

2. Now, where you see your Story feed at the top of the screen, click on your profile picture with the plus sign.

3. At the top of the screen, scroll through the story options until you see Live.

4. A button will now appear at the bottom of your screen that is a white circle. Click on that to start your Instagram live.

An issue is occurring if you follow these steps and cannot go live. There are many different reasons why this is happening, such as a bug or maybe your internet is not working correctly.

It can be very frustrating if you cannot go live as perhaps you rely on Instagram for an income, so you need to be able to update your followers, or maybe you want to promote a social movement.

There are countless reasons why you need to go live. Thankfully, there are various solutions you can try.

From restarting your internet, switching to cellular data, turning off a VPN, using another platform, logging out, using another account, deleting the app, clearing the cache, or even reaching out to Instagram, there are so many ways to try and remedy your issues with Instagram Live.

Hopefully, one of these options will work for you and get you back to using Instagram Live however you want.

2. I Can’t Join Instagram Live With Someone

If you are using Instagram, you can also watch other accounts that are going live or join in on users’ live streams. You can see who is currently live that you are following when you open the app.

Their live stream will appear at the top of your screen, where you can see stories. If someone is live, the colors around their story will be pulsing. Once you are watching Instagram Live, if the user allows you, you can tap a button to join their Instagram Live once they okay their account.

If you are struggling to either watch someone on Instagram who is currently live or you are having issues with joining on Instagram live, there are a couple of different causes. There could be a bug in Instagram, or your Wi-Fi is not working as well as it should be.

These issues also come with plenty of solutions. From restarting your internet, switching to cellular data, turning off a VPN, using another platform, logging out, using another account, deleting the app, clearing the cache, or even reaching out to Instagram, there are so many ways to try and remedy your issues with joining an Instagram Live.

Hopefully, one of these options will work for you and get you back to joining Instagram Live so you can keep up with the current lives of those you are following.

Why Won’t Instagram Live Work

1. Poor Internet Connection

Fix – Turn Your WI-FI off, Then to Connect Instagram to the Internet

You might not be able to use Instagram Live or join an Instagram Live because your internet is down or there is a bad connection to your Wi-Fi network. A straightforward method to remedy this issue is restarting your Wi-Fi router.

To do this, you can disconnect and then reconnect to your Wi-Fi on your device, unplug and plug back in your router, or power down and power back up your router. You can either unplug your router from the outlet it is connected to or from the wire that powers your router.

The longer you leave your router unplugged, the better. This gives your internet connection a more extended break which can help it strengthen once you plug it back in. Additionally, the router may be in a bad area in your space, meaning your internet can not reach everywhere you need it.

Moving it to a more centralized location in your area can also help stabilize your connection. Once you have connected your device to your internet again, see if you can now use Instagram Live or join an Instagram Live.

Fix 2 – Switch from WI-FI to Data

If you keep trying to start an Instagram Live to show off the latest haul you purchased or want to join the Instagram Live your favorite celebrity has begun but cannot, your internet connection may be to blame.

It is common and normal for your Wi-Fi to go offline every once in a while, so do not stress about it. There are quite a few ways to try and get it back up and starting, or you may not even be connected.

Your Wi-Fi connection or cellular data may also inhibit you from making an Instagram Live or joining an Instagram Live. One change may be to switch to your cellular data if you are currently connected to Wi-Fi or vice versa.

If you have a cellular data plan with your phone service, this might be the answer to your issues with Instagram Live. Once you have changed to either Wi-Fi or data, try again to join an Instagram Live or start your own.

Sometimes, your phone may not be appropriately connected to your Wi-Fi. Still, it will function more efficiently through your cellular data, and you can share your haul with your followers or keep up with your favorite celebrities.

Fix 3 – Turn Off VPN

Turning off your VPN will change your internet settings, which could be another possible way to get back to using your Instagram account to go live or join another Instagram Live. You may have been using a VPN without knowing it. All VPNs do is offer a way for you to hide where you are connecting to the internet from. If you are using an IOS device, follow these steps.

1. Start by opening up Settings on your device.

2. Next, go to Network.

3. Now, click on VPN and then either click Disconnect or tap on the toggle so that it turns to gray.

If you are using an Android device, follow these steps instead.

1. From the home screen of your Android device, scroll up so that you can see all of your apps and go to Settings.

2. Now, tap on Network and Internet Advanced.

3. You will now see an option that says VPN and choose that.

4. Next, click on Turn Off, and you will officially turn off the VPN on your device.

Whether you are using an IOS device or an Android, turning your VPN off will hopefully be the solution that allows you to fully utilize your Instagram app on your device and create an Instagram Live or join an Instagram Live.

2. Instagram Is Down

Instagram itself may be to blame as the server might also be down, which can cause your problems with not being able to use Instagram Live or join an Instagram Live. You can check to see if this is the case by going to DownDetector.com.

Once you have accessed the website, you will be met with a search bar. Type Instagram into the said bar and click the magnifying glass to check.

You will then either see if problems are being reported with Instagram’s servers, and that can help explain your inability to use Instagram Live or join an Instagram Live, or you will see a message saying there are no current problems with Instagram’s servers, so this is not the technological fault you are dealing with. If Instagram is down as the server is not working, the only solution you have is to wait for Instagram to go back up.

Fix – Wait For Instagram To Go Back Up

If you went to DownDetector.com and learned that the Instagram server is down and no longer working, the only way to solve this is to wait for the server to come back online. This problem is on Instagram’s end, which means there is nothing you can personally fix to solve your posting problems.

The only solution is to wait until workers can get the server functioning and online again. However, in the meantime, you can keep checking DownDetector.com and refreshing Instagram’s status so that you can react as soon as the server is back up and use Instagram Live or join an Instagram Live.

You can also reach out to Instagram through the app to let them know that their server is down, even though they are most likely aware and already working to solve the issue.

Fix 2 – Go Live On Another Platform Like TikTok

If Instagram Live does not work for you, nor will joining Instagram Live, you can also try using another platform, such as TikTok, Facebook, or various others. Both apps offer a live feed that you can stream that works the same way as Instagram Live. If you want to use TikTok, follow these steps.

1. First, to use TikTok to go live, you will need at least 1,000 followers. If you do not have 1,000 followers, you cannot go live on TikTok. If you do have enough followers, you can use TikTok.

2. Open up TikTok on any device you want. You will need to be logged in to an account or create an account to go live. While you can use the app without an account, you will not be able to go live until you have an account.

3. Next, click on the Post button in the middle of the bottom of the screen.

4. Now, scroll through the options at the bottom until you see LIVE with a red button.

5. Click on LIVE and add a title for your live stream.

6. Pick your cover photo and topic, and include any other filters and information you would like.

7. Once you are ready to start your live feed, press Go LIVE, a pink button.

Fix 3 – TikTok is a great alternative to use if Instagram Live will not work.

However, remember that you need 1,000 followers for this to be an option. You can also try Facebook Live if you do not have many followers. There is no requirement to use Facebook live, so you can use this app if you have an account. To use this app instead, follow these steps.

1. The first thing you will do is open up Facebook on any device that you are logged into.

Click on that to start your Facebook live.

This is another option if Instagram Live is not working and you do not have enough followers on TikTok to live-stream whatever you want to share with your followers. Other live-stream apps include Vimeo Livestream, Periscope, YouTube Live, Dacast, YouNow, JW Live, Broadcast Me, Zype, and IBM Cloud Video.

There are also plenty of other options you can download from any app store that are not included in this list. Almost all of these apps require an account to go live, but you can make the account for free and live stream for free.

Fix 4 – There’s A Bug

Bugs are a common problem for all apps that have ever been created, as there is little that can be done to avoid them. There was a wide glitch that all Instagram users experienced in 2021 when the app would not load for anyone in the world due to a bug in the software. The bug in 2021 caused users to be unable to utilize the app for almost half a day.

It caused businesses that relied on social media to shut down and cost the company millions. The cause is just known as a bug, and users were unable to do anything for the entire seven-hour shut down to try and make Instagram work again.

This has happened multiple times since Instagram was first established in 2010 and could be happening to you now, causing your issues with Instagram Live. These bugs can cause many user issues, such as the entire app being down. Your inability to use Instagram Live or join an Instagram Live could be due to a bug.

Thankfully, there are many ways to overcome the bug that you can try. While you will have to wait it out sometimes, logging out, using another account, updating the app, clearing the cache, reinstalling the app, or even contacting Instagram are all potential solutions you can try.

These hacks can help you overcome the bug so that you can go live on Instagram or join in on an existing Instagram live.

Fix 5 – Log Out Then Back In

A rapid and possible fix is to log out of Instagram and log right back in. This can help the app refresh and regroup, potentially allowing you to beat your problems and go live on Instagram or join an Instagram Live. This potential fix will only take you a couple of minutes to do. Follow these steps to log out of your Instagram account and log back in.

1. First, open up Instagram on any device you use.

2. To log out, click on your Profile in the lower right corner.

3. Then, click on the three lines in the upper right corner.

4. Now, select Settings, and then scroll down to press Log Out.

5. You will be brought to the login/sign-up page on Instagram. You will then need to log back in. Click on Log In.

6. Enter your account information and get access back to your Instagram account.

After you get logged back in, see if you can join an Instagram Live or make your own live stream. If you do not remember your password, do not fear.

Once you log out, you can easily send a password reset link to the email associated with your account and gain access right back in. This will hopefully solve your issues with not being able to use Instagram Live or join another’s Instagram Live.

Fix 2 – Use Another Account

Another option may be to use another account and try and use Instagram Live or join one. Your account may be the reason you are having issues with Instagram Live, so using another account can potentially solve this. If you already have another account linked to the app, you can quickly jump over to it. Follow these steps to go to your other account.

1. Open the Instagram app and find your profile in the bottom right corner.

2. Now, you will see your username at the top of the page. Click on it, and the other accounts linked to your app appear.

3. Tap on whichever one you want to try and use Instagram Live on.

Suppose you do not already have another account linked to your current profile or have another one exist altogether. You can follow these steps instead.

1. Open the Instagram app and find your profile in the bottom right corner.

2. Now, you will see your username at the top of the page. Click on it.2

3. Next, select the Add Profile option instead of clicking on another account.

4. Now you can either log into another account you have, and it will be linked to the one you were just on, or you can create a new profile. You can even log into a friend’s account if you have their information.

5. Once you have made the new profile, it will also be linked to your original account so you can quickly flip between the two.

Now, you can try and see if you can get access to make an Instagram Live or join an Instagram Live.

Fix 3 – Update Instagram to Get Rid Of Bugs

One reason you might struggle to use Instagram Live or join an Instagram Live that someone else created is a bug in the software. With almost a billion users across the globe, there are going to be problems occurring, such as bugs and other software setbacks.

These are sadly just a reality for social media apps of all kinds. These problems can be very frustrating when trying to get something done efficiently, but bugs are sometimes just unavoidable.

No app is immune to the issues that bugs bring on to workers and users alike. However, you can try and overcome this bug by simply updating your app. Follow these steps to update Instagram.

1. First, you must go to the app store on your device and find the update section.

2. If Instagram has fixed this bug through an update, you will see the app waiting in the update section.

3. Download the update.

4. Once Instagram is updated, reopen the app to see if you can use Instagram Live or watch someone else’s Instagram Live.

While updating Instagram, you can also choose a setting, so your device automatically updates any apps, so you do not have to remember to update them. However, if Instagram did not need an update, the bug causing your issues with Instagram Live is not fixed through an update, and you will need to try another solution.

Fix 4 – Clear Your Cache to Get Rid of Instagram Bugs

Instagram on your device may be full of too much additional information and data that is not relevant to your account or its functions which could be why you are struggling to make an Instagram Live or watch an Instagram Live.

You will need to clear cache files to eliminate this extra information. By doing this, you are not losing any necessary information and instead filter out all of the data saved over time that you do not need. Clearing cache files is straightforward and can be done in minutes.

Clearing your cache may also free up some space Instagram needs to understand what you are trying to do thoroughly. To do this, follow these steps.

1. Go to your profile in the bottom right corner of the Instagram app.

2. Now, head to Settings by clicking the three lines in the upper right corner.

3. Tap the Security button; the last choice will say Clear Search History.

4. Once you pick that one, select Clear All in the upper right corner.

This will hopefully allow Instagram to let you make an Instagram Live or access an Instagram Live that another user started.

Fix 5 – Uninstall and Reinstall the App

If all else is still not working and you cannot start on Instagram Live or join an existing Instagram Live, you can also try reinstalling the app onto your device.

To do so, delete the Instagram app from your phone, tablet, or any other device you are using Instagram on. Then head to the app store and reinstall Instagram. You will then have to log back into your Instagram account, and now, you will hopefully be able to share your treasured photo with all the world.

Once again, do not be worried about getting logged out, as Instagram has some straightforward steps you can follow to get logged right back in.

Fix 6 – Contact Instagram Support

You can also contact Instagram if you are still unable to watch Instagram Live or go live on Instagram yourself.

Once you are in contact with them, they can either go about helping you watch Instagram Live or make your own live stream on Instagram. Regardless, getting in touch with Instagram is very simple. Follow these steps to contact Instagram.

1. When you open the Instagram app, click on your profile in the bottom right corner.

2. Now, select the three lines in the upper right corner.

3. Tap on settings and then go to Help.

4. You can now choose Report A Problem.

5. A message will pop up saying Go Back and Shake Phone. Ignore that and tap on Report Problem without Shaking.

You can now type in your issue on Instagram, allowing you to upload your ad, and they will be in contact with you shortly to help resolve the problem so you can enjoy the Instagram Live feature.

Fix 7 – Wait For Them To Come Out With A Fix

Sitting back and relaxing may also be the only option available to you. If the fault is on Instagram, there is nothing you can do but be patient. Instagram does experience a shutdown here and there, but personnel is always trying their hardest to get the app back up and functioning for you.

Just wait for this process out, and you will be back to posting in no time. Once they come out with a fix, you can get back to watching Instagram Live and creating your own live stream.
