So, you’re using your iOS device and you realise that someday you may lose all of your data due to some unknown reasons.
This then causes you to backup the device in iCloud, so you know that if you did lose your data, you can easily restore the backup.
When trying to backup your iOS device, you may see a message that says some files were unavailable.
This specifically says, “Some files were unavailable during the last backup”.
If you do use iCloud to backup, it’s done at certain intervals when you’re connected to Wi-Fi so you don’t have to manually do it.
Sign out then Back into iCloud
The first thing you would need to do in this situation is to log out of iCloud then log back in.
If this problem is linked with your account specifically, signing in again may fix it.
To sign out of iCloud:
- Go to Settings
- Scroll down
- Tap Sing Out of iCloud
- Wait a few minutes
To sign into iCloud:
- Go to Settings
- Tap your Apple ID and sign in to iCloud
Delete the Last Backup
The next thing you need to do is to delete the last backup you made.
When you delete the last backup you made, it may stop this error message from popping up.
To delete the last backup:
- Launch the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Tap on your Apple ID right at the top
- Tap on iCloud
- Tap Manage Storage under iCloud
- Tap Backup
- Tap the device whose backup you want to delete
- Tap Delete Backup at the bottom
- Tap Turn Off & Delete
After you’ve done this, try to backup your iOS device again and see if this solved the problem.
Restart your device
If you’ve tried the steps above, you should have been able to get rid of this message after trying to backup again.
If you didn’t manage to fix it, a simple restart could do this job.
If a bug is causing this error to pop up, then restarting your device may get rid of it.
Make Storage Space for iCloud
The next thing you could do is to make sure you have enough storage space for the iCloud backup.
You can do this by turning off certain things from being backed up such as documents.
To manage storage:
- Go to settings
- Click on iCloud
- Tap on Storage
- You can delete photos, files and apps to make storage space
Those are the step you need to take when you get this error message.
