The new Apple TV, or Apple TV 4K is the latest in third party video streaming from Apple. You can view movies in 4K HDR and listen with the high end speakers. Apple TV now has many apps to choose from, and you can even download apps and games from the App Store.

With so much to do, having Apple’s AirPlay empowers the user to share those photos, videos, music, and many other things with the Apple TV, as well as many smart TVs, AirPort Express, and speakers. This tutorial will show you how to turn on AirPlay so that you can enjoys all of the new possibilities.

Prerequisites

Before you turn on AirPlay to share content over your devices:

1. Verify that your device is compatible with AirPlay. To use AirPlay, your iOS device must be 3G or later running iOS 4.2 or later; iPod Touch 5G or later

2. A computer must have iTunes 10.2 or laterMake sure you have a stable WiFi connection

3. Make sure you have a stable WiFi connection.

4. Make sure your iOS and Apple TV are using the same WiFi network

5. Charge up your iOS device

6. If you are using a Mac, make sure iTunes is up to date.

7. On your Apply TV, go to Settings and enable AirPlay.

Check Your iOS software updates

Check to see if there are updates available for your iOS device:

1. Go to Settings > General > Software Update

2. If there is an update, install it.

3. If there is no update, restart the device by double pressing Home and swiping up

4. You can restart your device

Turn On AirPlay For Apple TV Using iOS

You can now stream media or mirror from your iOS to your home theater. To turn on AirPlay using your iOS device and Apple TV follow these instructions:

1. Connect your iOS device to the network you are using for your Apple TV.

2. On your iOS device, go to the Control Center and open it on your device:

You should see AirPlay in the Control Center on your iOS device

3. You should see AirPlay in the Control Center on your iOS device

4. Swipe horizontally across the screen to view the Now Playing screen

5. Choose Apple TV. The content will begin to play on your Apple TV screen

Note: You can also use these steps to stream or mirror from your iOS device to an AirPlay compatible smart TV. Add your Apple TV or the AirPlay 2 compatible smart TV to the Home app and assign a room to use Siri from iOS.

Turn On AirPlay For Apple TV Using Mac OS With iTunes

You can stream media from your iOS to your home theater. To turn on AirPlay using your Mac OS and Apple TV follow these instructions:

1. Connect your Mac to the network your Apple TV (or AirPlay 2 compatible smart TV)

2. Go to the website with the content you want to stream from

3. Click the TV icon from the video playback controls

4. Choose your Apple TV (or AirPlay 2 compatible smart TV)

5. Click the TV icon in video playback controls to stop the streaming. Then select Turn Off Airplay.

6. If the content won’t play on the TV, check your iOS device to see if the software is completely updated. Also, check to see if iTunes is up to date on your Mac. Restart your device after making the changes and check to see if you see AirPlay in the Control Center.

Mirror Your iOS Device On Apple TV

Streaming isn’t the only way to take advantage of the AirPlay feature with your Apple devices. You can also mirror what is on your iOS screen on your Apple TV (or AirPlay 2 compatible smart TV) using the Screen Mirroring feature. Follow these steps:

1. Connect your iOS device to the network you are using for your Apple TV.

2. On your iOS device, go to the Control Center and open it on your device

3. Select Screen Mirroring

4. Choose your Apple TV (or AirPlay 2 compatible smart TV) from the list. If you are prompted to enter a passcode, enter it on the iOS device

5. The content will begin to play on your Apple TV screen. Your TV will use the orientation and aspect ration from your iOS device. If your TV screen is not fully covered with the content from your iOS device, go to your TV settings and adjust the zoom.
