Facebook is the most popular social networking site and it allows you to interact with people you know. This can be done by liking, commenting, sharing people’s posts, or directly messaging them using Messenger. When you first sign up to Facebook, you can add people you know – this can be done by finding people who work in the same place as you or go to the same school as you.
When you first sign up for Facebook, you have to provide your date of birth, and this is used by Facebook to notify other people when your birthday is. This allows your friends who don’t know your birthday to be reminded of it via a notification – they can use this notification to post on your wall or with you a happy birthday via Messenger.
By default, people can see your birthday on your profile, and they’ll receive a notification when it’s your birthday. If you don’t want Facebook to send people a notification when it’s your birthday, then you can stop this. You may have entered the wrong birthday, or you don’t want people knowing it’s your birthday.
Adjust Settings to Hide Birthday on Facebook
It will only take a few moments of your time in order to hide your birthday on Facebook. This is very easy to carry out. In order to get started and hide your birthday, follow the simple instructions below.
1. Navigate to the Facebook website.
2. Log in to your account, if you aren’t already logged in.
3. Click on [Your Name] towards the top left of the website. This is the same process you normally undertake in order to view your profile.
4. Click on the About section.
5. Click on the Contact and Basic Info tab.
6. Scroll down to your Birth Date and click on Edit towards the right.
7. From the drop-down menu, click on Only me.
8. Click on Save Changes.
You’ve now edited your profile so that no one but you can see your birthday. You’ll note that from the drop-down menu in step #6 you had the option of choosing from Public, Friends, Only me, and Custom. Public means that anyone, even those people who aren’t your friends, can see your birthday. Friends, true to the name, means only your friends can see your birthday. Only me, as you probably inferred by now, means no one but you can see your birthday.
Lastly, Custom means you can customize a specific list and get to decide who does and doesn’t see your birthday. Most users who want to hide their birthday simply choose the Only me option, as described above.
Anyone who isn’t on the custom list or anyone who isn’t you won’t be able to receive a notification when it’s your birthday or see your birthday on your profile. The next time your birthday rolls around, you’ll know who really matters. However, expect to be a bit disappointed, since, in this day and age, most people do tend to use Facebook in order to remember the birthdays of their colleagues and friends
