The days of conventional TVs have been numbered and they are getting replaced by Smart TVs. Apple is leading the chart of the Smart TV market and they are making quite a few adjustments to maintain their position at the top. One of the growing trends in Apple’s design philosophy is the complete eradication of any physical button anywhere on the device. Now the question is that if there is no button then how would the users turn off the Apple TV?

The answer to that question is that there are different turning off procedures for different TV models but all these techniques are fairly similar. So, if you have just bought an Apple TV and do not know how to turn it off then you can follow the instructions mentioned below.

Turn Off Apple TV 4K and 4th Generation Apple TV:

If you have got yourself an Apple TV 4K and 4th Generation Apple TV then you can turn it off through two simple ways. You can either use the remote control or you can utilize the on-screen commands. Here is what you will need to do:

Via Remote: Hold the Home Button (the one with the TV icon on it) on your Siri Remote. A menu would appear having the option Sleep Now on it. Just click the touchpad to put the TV to sleep.

Via Onscreen Commands: Open the Settings app and locate the Sleep Now menu. Use the touchpad to execute the option.

How to Turn Off 3rd and 2nd Generation Apple TV:

If you own a 3rd or 2nd Generation Apple TV then here is how you can turn it off.

Via Remote: Simply press-hold the play/pause button on the remote for a few seconds. Doing this will automatically put your TV to sleep.

Via Onscreen Commands: Open the Settings app and scroll down until you find the Sleep Now option. Use this option to put your TV to sleep.

How to Turn Off 1st Generation Apple TV and Apple TV Take 2:

If you own a 1st generation or an Apple TV Take 2 then you can refer to following methods.

Via Remote: Simply press-hold the play/pause button on the remote for a few seconds. Doing this will automatically put your TV to sleep.

Via Onscreen Commands: Launch the Settings app and locate the option Standby. Use this option to turn your TV off.

Automatic Settings:

If you do not want to use manual ways then automatic settings can help you in making your TV sleep. The device will go to sleep after a certain period of inactivity by itself. This method is only valid for Apple TV 4k and Apple TV 4th generation. Here is how you can adjust the settings.

1. Launch the Settings app on your TV.

2. Choose the option General.

3. Select the option Sleep After.

4. Now you can set the duration after which Apple TV goes to sleep due to inactivity. The option you will see on the screen are: Never, 15 Minutes, 30 Minutes, One Hour, 5 Hours and 10 Hours. It totally depends on your preference and you can even select the option Never if you do not want to use this automatic option.

Turning it Back On:

If you want to turn the TV back on then all you need to do is to hit any button on the remote. The status light will blink and the Home Screen would appear on the screen. You can alternatively use Remote app on your iOS device to turn the TV back on. Simply launch the app on your iPhone or iPad and press any button to wake the Apple TV.
