How to Speed up GIF Videos

On nearly any platform that you use for communication, you’ll be able to use GIFs. GIFs are those short videos that you might be able to send as a response on your device. GIFs are extremely popular, and they’ve been adopted as a way to communicate between everyone who understands that video format.

You probably have a GIF keyboard or have placed one somewhere to be funny. Either way, GIFs are a very common thing for you to see on social media sites, such as Twitter and Instagram. Some of the GIFs that you see might move fast and be short, while others might be longer and slower. If you want to place GIFs in certain places, such as a website, then the speed of the GIF might be very integral to how well that place functions when visitors enter the page.

Why do you have to speed up GIFs?

Often, you have to speed up GIFs that you use on websites. GIFs are often a creative way to make your website more exciting to be on, but they can lead to complications because of how large their files are. GIFs are a heavy piece of media to put on a page, and even if it only lasts a few seconds, you might find that your website wont load quickly.

If site visitors have slower connections, they might be looking at a blank page for much longer than they’d like to. If they aren’t patient, they might exit your page, and all of your creative work that you put into the page wont be seen.

4. Once you can see all the frames, select the ones that you want to skip by clicking the red “Skip” button beneath each frame. It’s good to choose every third, every fourth, or every fifth frame just to keep the GIF consistent. The more frames you skip, the faster the GIF and the smaller the file. Keep in mind that you want to skip as many frames as you can to assure that your website still loads as quickly as possible.

5. Scroll past the frames and select the blue “Make a GIF” button to generate the new GIF with less frames.

6. Right click on the new GIF that’s generated to save it on your device for later use.

Compress the GIF

This can reduce the file size from 30% – 50% by using the Lossy GIF setting. Although you might sacrifice some quality, the GIF will still be perfectly recognizable. Choose a size that makes the GIF look and work the way that you want it to.

1. Navigate to the website.

2. At the top of the screen, you’ll see a few options of what you can do with your GIF on the website. Select the “GIF Optimizer” tab upload the GIF that you want to edit.

3. Once you upload the GIF, above the GIF, you’ll see a few different tabs. Select the tab that’s labeled “optimize.”

select the compression level

4. Beneath the GIF, select the compression level that you want to use by sliding the white box along the scale. It tells you 30 is light and 200 is heavy, so you might want to try a setting on the lower end and try to see if the GIF still looks the way that you want it to.

5. After you’ve selected the level of compression you want, select the blue “Optimize GIF” option.

6. You can view the new GIF beneath that button. The size is located below the GIF, so you can choose to keep compressing to decrease the size.
