How to Freeze Location on Find My iPhone

When you want someone to stop seeing your location, there are a few things that you can do. When you freeze your location, there are two ways to do it. Either you turn off your location entirely (be aware that people can find out that you’ve turned your location off). Or, you ‘freeze’ it and make it say no location found. This means that your location is still on, but they won’t see your exact location since it won’t update.

1. Go to An Area With No Signal

Find My iPhone relies on having an internet connection or cellular data connection to work correctly. This means that one way you can freeze your Find My iPhone location is by going to a location that has no signal.

If you already know an area where you struggle to get any connection to your iPhone, go to this area. Once you are there, you will notice that you have no connection, and your iPhone will tell you so.

This means you have no signal, so Find My iPhone has no way of figuring out where you are. Then, the app cannot share your location because it has no clue what your current location is.

If you do not know an area near you where there is no signal, you will need to drive around until you can find a place. You can tell if you still have a signal by looking at the lock screen on your iPhone.

Since you are not connected to the internet, your data will be appearing in the top right corner of your screen. As you drive around, pay attention to how many bars are located on this corner.

The maximum your iPhone can have is 4. The higher the number, the stronger your signal is and vice versa. Also, LTE is stronger than 5G. Drive to an area where you are in 5G and only have 1-2 bars of signal.

Keep moving around in this area, and you will notice you have lost signal. The top right corner of your screen will now say No Signal. When you are in this area, your location will not be seen on Find My iPhone because the app does not know where you are.

Once you want your location to be shared again, move to an area with a signal, and the app will find you.
