How to Convert PNG to JPG mac

There are so many image formats that sometimes it’s hard to keep up with them. Screenshots and some other images created on Mac are captured and saved to the computer as PNGs. However, many applications require that images be uploaded or inserted in JPEG format. If you would like to learn how to convert your PNG images to JPEG format, this tutorial is for you.

Convert PNG to JPEG Using Preview and Export

Images created on Mac OS and Mac OS X can easily be converted from PNG to JPEG using Preview, a built-in utility that allows you to change a file format. The conversions can be carried out without downloading any app. To use this method, follow these steps:

1. Open the PNG file that you want to convert to JPEG by double clicking on the image or dragging it into Preview. You can search for the file in Finder.

2. Once the image is open in Preview, navigate to the file menu and select Duplicate.

Export

3. When the new duplicate file opens in Preview, go to File > Export.

4. Choose JPEG from the Format drop down menu:

Save as PNG

5. Choose a location for your new JPEG file and then click on Save to export the PNG file to JPEG.

Note: If you were not able to use the Duplicate feature, you can still format your PNG file in Preview. Your original PNG file will remain on your computer after you convert to JPEG until you delete it. Also, as you can see in the last screen shot, you can also convert other file formats in Preview using this same method.

Convert PNG to JPEG Using Preview and Save As

You can also convert PNG to JPEG by using the Save As feature by following these steps:

1. Open the PNG file that you want to convert to JPEG by double clicking on the image or dragging it into Preview. You can search for the file in Finder.

2. Once the image is open in Preview, navigate to the file menu and select Duplicate.

3. When the new duplicate file opens in Preview, go to File > Save As and choose the format and location for your new JPEG. If you don’t see the Save As feature as an option in the dropdown menu, click Export and convert by using method one.
