CBS All Access is a fairly new exclusive network content offering. It is similar to other streaming services like Netflix and Prime, but it is only for CBS content. It offers content that you can only get if you have CBS All Access and not just on the network. So, the question here is how much does it cost, and is it worth as much as they are asking.

CBS All Access is an on demand and live TV streaming service. Its close competitors are Starz and HBO that are other networks that have a subscription aside from your cable company. You are able to get your subscription directly from CBS or as a part of your Amazon Prime Video Channels both.

How Much Does CBS All Access Cost?

CBS All Access has two levels of subscription. The first option is one that has a limited amount of commercials and one with no commercials at all. Both of these are actually named exactly what they offer. One is named Limited Commercials and the other is named Commercial Free.

The subscription with limited commercials is a $5.99 a month fee and will play commercials during live content and on demand content. The Commercial Free subscription is $9.99 a month. The catch here is that it isn’t actually commercial free.

When you are watching live TV on CBS All Access you will still see the same amount of commercials as on TV. The only time you don’t see any commercials is when you are streaming on demand content. There are also Promotional Messaging which is just a fancy way of saying commercial.

The commercial free subscription also lets you download some of the CBS All Access content to watch later when you are offline, but not all of the content that it offers is available in this feature. Both of the monthly subscriptions do allow two streams to go on at one time so you and someone else in the family can watch different shows at the same time.

So, Is CBS All Access Worth the Money?

This is a question for you to answer for yourself really, but you need to be informed on all the details before you make that decision.

CBS All Access lets you stream on most devices that have streaming capability including Android, Windows, Mac, Fire TV Stick, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and others as well. It takes a little while to get over how crowded the app at first, but once you do it is rather easy to navigate. A downside is that you can only stream content in 1080p as of right now. If you are used to using other streaming apps like Netflix or Amazon Prime Video that offer 4K this might be a disappointment.

When you pay for CBS All Access you get access to four different kinds of content.

1. Live CBS broadcasts

2. CBS original programs like Star Trek: Discovery

3. On demand movie lists

4. Streams of new and old CBS TV series

Live CBS Broadcasts

With the live CBS broadcasts that are made available to you with All Access you get your local CBS channels, CBSN 24/7 news, and you get access to CBS Sports HQ. you should still research what channels and programs are currently available before you decide seeing as how CBS does change their shows and programs just like any network.

The live TV on CBS All Access is just like watching live TV on cable or OTA broadcasts with commercials and all, so that’s not really a plus other than the fact you can watch it on a mobile device or without a cable provider.

CBS Original Programs

CBS All Access gives you access to their original content which may not be available to you elsewhere and that means that this could be the only way you can see some CBS content in a legal way.

On Demand Movies

CBS All Access is honestly geared towards TV shows way more than movies and that is proven by the tiny list of available content at one time. There are only 15 to 20 movies available at a time on CBS All Access which makes this a big downer to movie lovers. This is far from impressive and is lacking majorly compared to other streaming services.

Streams of New and Old CBS TV Series

If you are a big TV show fan and like the content that CBS offers on their network, this is where you will be getting most of your value out of CBS All Access. This doesn’t include every show that CBS has ever made or even currently make, but it does include all of the hit shows.

They include The Amazing Race, 60 Minutes, Blue Bloods, CSI, Elementary, NCIS, Survivor, The Big Bang Theory, Madam Secretary, and Undercover Boss. This is not a complete list of the shows that you can stream. So, if you don’t see the show you were looking for don’t worry. It could still be here.

Just do a quick search and you will find a full list of the shows CBS offer for streaming. Also, be aware that just because a show made it on the list does not mean that every episode is available to stream. It could still be limited to certain episodes or seasons. This is hard to believe and doesn’t really make sense for the network that makes the shows to not have all the episodes available on its paid subscription streaming service. This is a huge negative on the topic of cost versus worth of CBS All Access honestly.

So, now that you have some background you can make an informed decision on whether or not CBS Access is worth the $5.99 or $9.99 subscription cost. There are quite a few shortcomings, but the choice is yours to make on if it is worth your money every month or not.
