I’m going to show you what to do when ‘Hey Siri’ isn’t working. ‘Hey Siri’ is the feature on your iPhone or iPad devices that allow you to open up Siri and give her a command such as asking her to set up a reminder for something. Sometimes this feature may stop working so, I’m going to show you why ‘Hey Siri isn’t working and how to fix it with a few steps.
The most common reason for Hey Siri not to work is because of a software glitch on your iPhone or iPad. The software glitch can stop Siri from recognising your voice and responding so, you’ll need to turn your iPhone off then on. Hold the power button > swipe your iPhone to turn it off > turn it on again > Say “Hey Siri” and it should work. Down below are some more reason to fix this issue.
Why isn’t Hey Siri Working on your Device
There are many more reasons why hey Siri isn’t working on your iPhone or iPad. For example, this feature may not work is because of network and competitivity problems. So, I’m going to give you the most reliable fixes to get hey Siri working again.
Make Sure Hey Siri is Turned On
The first reason why hey Siri may not be working is simply because it isn’t turned on. This is very basic advice, but you may have turned it off accidentally which is the reason why it may not be working. Having hey Siri turned on is separate from just having Siri turned. This can also be the reason you forget hey Siri had to be turned on because Siri was already turned on.
To turn on Hey Siri:
- Go to the Settings app from your home screen
- Go to Siri & search
- Make sure Siri and “Hey Siri” is turned on
If you found that this feature was turned off, this was the reason hey Siri wasn’t working. If it was already turned on, go to the next step.
Reboot your iPhone or iPad
The next step to take when hey Siri isn’t working is because of a software issue on your iPhone or iPad. Minor software problems on your device can cause other applications to crash and stop working so if you’re experiencing this problem, this best thing to do is to reboot your device.
This is basically going to clear up any minor software issues that’s stopping Siri from working. You may have also noticed, when you’re having problems with your device, you turn your phone on and off and this usually does the trick, well this is what you’re going to do now.
To reboot your device:
- Hold the sleep/wake button and wait for the Red power button to come up
- Swipe right to turn your iPhone off
- Wait up to 15 seconds for it to fully turn off
- Hold the sleep/wake button to turn your device back on
Once your device is back on, you’ll need to wait a few seconds for it to connect to a network. Once this is done, turn using the command and see if your iPhone or iPad responds, if it didn’t respond, go to the next step.
Your iPhone Does not Support Untethered Hey Siri
If your iPhone or iPad is jailbroken, you may have the Untethered Hey Siri feature. This feature is only available on jailbroken devices and it allows you to access the hey Siri feature without your device being plugged into power. If you have a 6S and above, you’ll be able to use this feature without having your iPhone or iPad plugged in.
Your device may not support the untethered hey Siri feature which is why it’s not working for you. If you have an old iPhone or iPad, you’ll need to connect your device to a power source for you to access the hey Siri feature. This is because hey Siri drains a lot of battery so only the new Apple devices have access to this feature because it’s efficient enough to use it without using up much battery.
Turn your WI-FI on and off
You need internet in order for Siri to work so if there’s a problem with your network, this can also be another reason why it isn’t working. It may look like your iPhone or iPad is connected to the internet but in reality, you’re not connected to the internet.
You can easily fix this issue and try to connect to the internet by turning your WI-FI on and off. You can do this by:
- Going into the Settings app
- Tap on WI-FI
- Toggle the WI-FI on then off
If you’re using cellular data, try turning your device on and off and see if this fixes the problem. Try to command hey Siri and see if the issue was your network and If it’s still not working, go to the next step.
Check if your Speaker is Working
The next reason why hey Siri is not working is because of your speakers. There may be a hardware problem within your speakers that’s casing you’re not to hear sound properly. If you’ve had trouble hearing things on your device lately, your speakers may be broken, and this is why you cannot hear the reply from Siri
If there are any hardware issues that are causing your speakers not to work, you can try cleaning them out. Here are some steps to take when your speakers aren’t working.
Reset All Settings
If you’ve tried all the steps above, the next step to take is to reset all of your settings. This is going to fix any software issues that are lurking in your device which is causing Siri not to work. Resetting your settings is going to wipe all of your settings and take it back to how it was when you first got the device. Using this method is going to eliminate the problem that’s going Siri not to work so here’s how to do it:
- Go to the Settings app
- Tap on General
- Scroll all the way down and tap on Reset
- Once you take on reset, tap on ‘Reset All Settings’
- Confirm your decision when the pop up comes up
Once you’ve confirmed your decision, you’ll need to wait for your iPhone or iPad to reboot. This is going to take a while so be patient. Once your device has been rebooted, try to access the Hey Siri feature and see if it’s working.
