Feedback Required Instagram

Feedback_required on Instagram is an error message that pops up when you are trying to perform an action on Instagram such as following an account, sending a message, posting a picture or video, liking a post or even logging into your account. It is a restriction on your IP address that requires you to perform certain actions to lift it. This error can come in either of these forms:

  • feedback_required
  • Server error feedback_required

Whatever the case, Instagram is essentially saying that it does not trust your identity because of some actions that may have occurred on your account or device. On some occasions, however, especially in the case of “Server error feedback_required”, it can be as a result of the Instagram server having too much traffic. We will explore this in the next section.

When you receive the Feedback_required error, it is best to suspend the action you are trying to perform and take steps to fix the error first. If you continue with the forbidden action, your account may be blocked for good.

Why Does it Say Feedback_required on Instagram?

There are several reasons why you may get the feedback_required error when trying to use Instagram. The most common ones include:

1. You Have Commented the Same Thing Under Too Many Pictures

When you post the exact same comment under several pictures or videos, the Instagram algorithm or simply, the Instagram system can interpret it as the action of a bot or as spamming. That is, it sees them to be comments that are not made my real users, and stops you from further performing such actions.

2. You’ve Been Liking Too Many Pictures in a Short Space of Time

When on Instagram, it is easy to get carried away just liking all the pictures and videos that interest you. You may even be doing this as a favor to a friend. However, Instagram refers to this as spam liking and categorizes it as a suspicious action.

While there is no limit to the number of pictures or videos you can like on Instagram overall, giving too many likes within a short space of time can result in the Feedback_required error message. We will explore the limits per day and hour later in this article.

3. You’ve Been Messaging Too Many Accounts Recently

Just as is the case with Facebook, when you message too many accounts that you do not have mutual following with, especially in a short time frame, your account can be viewed as suspicious, resulting in the Feedback_required error. Instagram does this to protect users from robots, scammers, and stalkers. The error can also occur when you are sending the exact same messages to different users.

4. You’re Using a Third-party App to Complete Certain Actions on Instagram

You may be using a third-party app to manage and operate your social accounts. This is especially useful when you want to reduce the number of applications on your phone.

However, Instagram may see some of these apps as suspicious and suspend your activities. It is also an attempt by Instagram to protect your Instagram credentials from data breach.

A general rule is that apps that require you to provide your Instagram username and password on their platform should be avoided. Trustworthy apps would instead request that you sign in to your Instagram account and then grant them access to clearly-stated aspects of your account such as your username or photos.

5. You’ve Been Using a Bot to Automate

There are applications that automate some of your activities on Instagram such as liking, commenting, following, and even posting. However, Instagram makes a distinction:

1. Automated activities on other users’ accounts such as liking, following and commenting are suspicious. Instagram seeks to eliminate the use of bots to perform potentially harmful activities on the accounts of its users

2. Automated activities on your own account are accepted by Instagram. This includes posting images and pictures. For example, Microsoft PowerAutomate has a seamless integration with Instagram for such automations.

Another use case of automation is applications that grow your followers using bots. Instagram has now banned such activities because it wants to encourage organic growth, that is, growth of followers that comes with natural user engagement. Therefore, if you are using such apps, it can also result in the Feedback_required error.

6. Targeted Hashtags that are Banned

Instagram constantly reviews hashtags that are permitted on its platform. Several hashtags are banned either because users have reported them or Instagram finds them to be inappropriate or dangerous.

Some of these hashtags may be harmless in themselves but have been used by others for abuse, discrimination, violence, misinformation, and so on. It can get tricky because a letter at the end of the hashtag such as an “s” can make all the difference between banned and permitted hashtags. #asiangirl is banned whereas #asiangirls is permitted.

As a general rule, hashtags associated with the following are banned on Instagram:

1. Racism and other forms of discrimination

2. Terrorism

3. Violence or other graphic images without warning

4. Promoting suicide or other harm to self

5. Prostitution and nudity

6. Promoting or advertising guns and gun violence, organised crime, drugs

In some cases, your post that uses a banned hashtag may simply be hidden. In other cases, it may result in the Feedback_required error.

This is also another way Instagram is using to eliminate bots and fake accounts, which are usually used to perpetuate nefarious activities on the platform.

7. Instagram Server Error

Sometimes, the error has nothing to do with any activity on your account or device. Instagram servers may be down or overloaded with user traffic. When that happens, it would not be able to process the action you are trying to perform at the time, resulting in the Feedback_required error. The “Server error feedback_required” error is sometimes displayed in this case.

8. There’s A Glitch with Instagram

The feedback_required error may also be due to a temporary glitch in the Instagram application. This glitch may be caused by network connectivity issues, Instagram app cache issues, software malfunction, and so on. As with the Instagram server error, the problem does not lie with you or your account but with the application.

How to Fix Feedback_required on Instagram

As we have discovered above, the feedback_required error on Instagram can be caused by one of many factors. Therefore, only a process of elimination can help to resolve the issue. It is best to perform one step, retry the action you were trying to perform on Instagram and check if the error has been cleared.

1. Switch From WiFi to Cellular Network and Vice-versa

The feedback_required error on Instagram may be caused by issues with the IP address of your device. Instagram may temporarily flag your IP address as suspicious and prevent it from accessing the Instagram servers. You can work around this by switching networks. You can switch from:

1. One mobile network to another

2. A mobile network to a Wi-Fi

3. A Wi-Fi to a mobile network

Changing networks changes the IP address your device is using to connect to Instagram. This can resolve the feedback_required error. If this does not work, you may try other fixes below.

One thing to note is that you do not have to make this change permanent. You may need to switch back to your previous network and that’s okay. Your IP address changes constantly so it is likely to change to an IP address that is not flagged by Instagram in a few hours.

2. Try Connecting to a VPN

Another way to work around the IP address issue is to use a VPN. A VPN, Virtual Private Network, allows you to change the IP address and even the location of your device.

All you need to do is download and install your desired VPN from the application store, then open it and select to connect your phone to the internet through the VPN app.

After connecting through your VPN, you may retry accessing Instagram.

Please note the many VPN apps result in slow internet connection.

3. Access Your Data on Instagram

Sometimes Instagram may want to confirm that you are the owner of the account, or that you are human, and hence the feedback_required error. By accessing your data on Instagram, you can prove your identity to Instagram and eliminate the error. This is because you would need to input your credentials to access your Instagram data. To access your data:

1. Navigate to your Instagram profile

2. Tap the menu button. It is the hamburger symbol (3 horizontal lines) at the top right of the screen

3. Select Settings

4. Select Security

5. Select Access Data

6. Enter the requested credentials and OK

7. After the data loads, close the Instagram app and remove it from your phone’s recent apps.

8. Reopen Instagram and check whether the error has cleared. If not, please proceed below

4. Clear Instagram Cache

If the cause of the feedback_required error is a glitch on the Instagram app, clearing the cache of the app can resolve the issue. This is because the app memory may become overburdened and cause it to malfunction.

To clear the cache on Android OS:

1. Navigate to your mobile device Settings

2. Select Apps

3. Select Manage Apps

4. Navigate to Instagram and select it

5. Select Clear Data

6. Select Clear Cache

7. Restart the device

To clear the cache on iOS:

1. Navigate to Settings on your device

2. Select General

3. Select iPhone Storage

4. Select Instagram

5. Select Offload app

6. Confirm the action

7. Select Reinstall app

You do not need to restart your device after clearing the cache on iOS. Just open the app and retry to see if the error has been fixed. If it persists, please try the other steps below.

5. Uninstall Instagram and Reinstall

The second way to fix a glitch issue is uninstalling the application completely from your device. Then wait at least 2 hours before reinstalling the app. If you reinstall immediately, it is unlikely to resolve the issue. Sometimes, the application may become corrupt or filled with bugs. The best way to ensure that the issue is not a glitch on the Instagram app is through this uninstall and reinstall process.

6. Wait for 24 Hours

Even though you may want to quickly get back on the app, sometimes simply waiting 24 hours may resolve the feedback_required issue. As explained earlier, Instagram is trying to eliminate bots and suspicious automation from its platform. Therefore, it can place a temporary suspension on your account to prevent an automated chain of actions.

The minimum waiting period is 24 hours while the maximum is 72 hours. Usually, a 24-hour wait is enough to fix the issue in such cases.

7. Delete Third-Party Apps

As explained earlier, the third-party apps that you use to access and manage your Instagram account may also cause the feedback_required error. While Instagram does not explicitly ban all third-party apps, the system could see some of them as suspicious or risk factors. Simply delete or uninstall the apps and use the official Instagram app only.

You will also have to revoke the access of these apps from your Instagram account. To do this:

1. Navigate to your Instagram profile

2. Tap the menu button. It is the hamburger symbol (3 horizontal lines) at the top right of the screen

3. Select Settings

4. Select Security

5. Select Apps and Websites

6. Select the App whose access you want to revoke and select Remove

8. Link Instagram Account with Facebook

As you may already know, Instagram and Facebook, as well as WhatsApp, are owned by the same parent company. Most of the cases of the feedback_required error are caused by Instagram suspecting your account or activities on your account as not being genuine.

One of the best ways to eliminate this issue is to link your Instagram account with your verified and active Facebook account. This integration proves to Instagram that you are a genuine user.

To link your Instagram account with your Facebook account:

1. Navigate to your profile on Instagram

2. Tap the menu button. It is the hamburger symbol (3 horizontal lines) at the top right of the screen

3. Select Settings

4. At the bottom of the page, select Accounts Centre

5. Select Set Up Accounts Centre

6. Select Add Facebook account

7. You will be prompted to log in to the Facebook account you want to link. Enter the credentials

8. Select Yes

9. Select whether you want to sync the profile photo from Facebook or not

10. Select Ok or Continue

9. Stop Using Banned Hashtags

Banned hashtags are a major reason for the feedback_required error. As explained earlier, some of the banned hashtags may be obvious such as #rape, #nigger, #suicide, and so on, but others are not.

A quick way to check if the hashtag you want to use is banned is to search the hashtag on Instagram. To do this:

1. Click the Explore button (the search or magnifying glass icon next to the Home icon)

2. In the search bar at the top, enter the hashtag you want to investigate

3. If the hashtag does not return any results, it is likely to have been banned. Some hashtags are banned temporarily to undergo review, others permanently.

However, some banned hashtag may return results. You need to confirm that you can use the hashtag by clicking on it. If it links to a page with an error or warning, it is banned.

10. Use Instagram.com

Alternatively, you could simply log into your Instagram account using the web browser on your phone or PC. This is handy when you have to wait for the temporary restriction on your account within the 24 to 72-hour timeframe. As long as the feedback_required error is not a result of a genuine block on your account for bad activity, using a web browser almost always bypasses the error.

11. Reset Network Settings

The network settings on your device may develop compatibility issues with the Instagram server over time. This can also result in the feedback_required error message. Resetting the network settings on your phone will resolve the issue in such cases.

To reset network setting on iOS (15 and above):

  1. Navigate to the phone Settings
  2. Tap General
  3. Tap Transfer or Reset
  4. Tap Reset
  5. Tap Reset Network Settings

For iOS 14 and below:

  1. Navigate to phone Settings
  2. Tap General
  3. Tap Reset
  4. Tap Reset Network Settings

For Android OS:

  1. Navigate to phone Settings
  2. Tap Connection and Sharing
  3. Tap Reset Networks
  4. Tap Reset

12. Report The Problem to Instagram

Where all of the options above fail, you may need to report the problem to Instagram using the Feedback form provided after the feedback_required error.

Alternatively:

  1. Navigate to your profile
  2. Select Menu
  3. Select Settings
  4. At the bottom of the page, tap Help
  5. Select Report a problem
  6. Select Report a problem again

Then follow the instructions to report the error. You will be asked to explain the issue and provide a screenshot. It is always best to state in detail the action(s) you were trying to perform when the error occurred.

How to Avoid Feedback_required Instagram Login

It is always better to be safe than sorry. While the feedback_required error can usually be cleared by applying any of the fixes above, there are occasions where it can result in permanent blocking of your account. Therefore, it is important to avoid actions that could lead to this error, where possible.

1. Don’t Use Bots or Third-Party Apps

Bots are no longer welcome on Instagram. Whether you are trying to automate actions or generate growth, Instagram will block any detected actions on users’ accounts that are not performed by humans.

Also, endeavour to use the official Instagram application to access and operate your Instagram account. Instagram flags third-party applications to protect its servers as well as your account.

Stop Completing the Same Actions:

1. Stop posting the same comment on different pictures or videos

2. Stop contacting several users you do not have mutual following with within a short space of time

3. Stop liking too many pictures and videos within a short space of time.

4. Stop following too many accounts within a short space of time

5. Do not send the exact same message to several users

Below are some limits you should be aware of:

  • Direct Message – 70 per day
  • Comments – 200 per day. Have to be original. Not more than 1 comment every 30 seconds.
  • Likes – 120/hour, 300-500 per 24 hours. Not more than 1 like every 30 seconds.
  • Follows – 10 per hour, 150 per 24 hours
  • Unfollows – 60 per hour, 150 per 24 hours
  • Direct Message – 70 per day
  • Total actions – not more than 500 of a combination of all actions per day.
  • Stories – 100 per 24 hours
  • Tags – 20 per post
  • Hashtags – 30 per post

Instagram placed these limits to prevent the action of bots and spam accounts, and also to help users limit how long they spend on the platform.

2. Have a Recap on Instagram’s Guidelines

New and old users alike need to constantly refresh their knowledge of Instagram’s Guidelines. Instagram changes its guidelines periodically so some knowledge may not be valid after a period of time. You can head over to the Instagram Help Centre to familiarize yourself with these guidelines. The guidelines can be found below:

  1. Navigate to your profile
  2. Select the Menu at the top right of the screen
  3. Select Settings
  4. Select Help
  5. Select Help Centre
  6. Select the Menu button at the top right of the screen
  7. Select Terms and Policies
  8. Select Community Guidelines
