Ethernet Configuration Disconnected Firestick? Try This

Ethernet Configuration Disconnected Firestick

When the Amazon Firestick tells you that the Ethernet configuration has disconnected, it could be caused by various reasons. Luckily enough, most of the causes of the buffering issue have easy fixes that anyone can perform and should not take more than a few minutes!

What Does Ethernet Configuration Disconnected Mean?

When your Amazon firestick device says that there is a disconnection with the ethernet configuration, this simply means that the connection between the device and ethernet or internet connection has been lost and needs to be configured.

There are several reasons why this could be happening and should not necessarily mean that your Amazon Firestick device is not working as it should be, as several outside factors come into play when these kinds of misconfigurations happen.

The following troubleshooting methods will help you configure your Amazon Firestick ethernet connections.

Why Does Firestick Says Ethernet Configuration Disconnected

1. Faulty or Unoriginal USB Cable Firestick

Many times, the USB cable connecting your Amazon Firestick to the TV and the power source could be damaged or faulty, causing you to have issues with having power and internet connections to the firestick. There are several ways to configure this issue and get your firestick working as it should.

Fix – Use an Original Firestick USB Cable

The first thing you will want to ensure is that you are using an original Firestick USB cable.

As much as one can argue that all USB cables are the same and that they all should function properly regardless of the device that they are being used, you should make sure that you are using the original USB cable that your Firestick device came with.

This way, you can directly avoid any issues that come with using a USB cable that was not meant for the Amazon Firestick device.

Fix 2 – Replace Firestick USB Cable

If you have suspicions that the USB cable you are using is damaged and is no longer working, then a good solution would be to replace the USB cable (view on Amazon) completely.

This is something to consider, especially if you have been using the device and the USB cable for a long time, as faulty USB cables tend to be more likely the longer you have been using them.

As mentioned before, try to make sure you get a replacement meant for the Amazon Firestick and not a random USB cable.

2. Internet Connection Issue

Because using an Amazon Firestick depends on having an internet connection to stream whatever content you want to see, if for some reason you are not having the best internet connection while watching Prime Video, it is very likely that you will be experiencing some sort of buffering issue while trying to watch.

Luckily, if you are looking into solving this issue, there are various methods you can try to resolve a poor internet connection.

Fix – If You Are Using an Ethernet Cable, Reconnect It

Remember that if you are using any kind of cable, in this case, an ethernet cable, you will want to make sure that the cable is connected well and there is nothing obstructing it. Go ahead and reconnect the ethernet cable and ensure that it is fully connected.

Fix 2 – If You’re Not Using an Ethernet Cable, Try Using One

In order to have the best connection when watching any sort of content on a smart TV or a device that requires an internet connection, a method you should give a try is plugging your TV directly into the internet router using an ethernet cable.

Another thing you should consider to have a strong internet connection is ensuring your TV is close to your router.

When you’re connecting multiple devices, you will want to ensure that you have a stable and strong internet connection by ensuring your router is high-powered and receives lots of power from the power supply.

A wired connection also comes with some benefits that might be as obvious right off the bat. First of all, it’s simple to set up – just plug it in.

Plugging your TV into the router via an ethernet cable provides the most reliable connection – your streaming should be free from buffering.

Lastly, using this method is much faster than Wi-Fi. In order to connect, follow the next steps.

1. Start off by finding the ethernet port on the back of your smart TV.

2. From here, you will want to connect an Ethernet cable from your router to the port on your TV.

3. Using your TV’s remote, find the option to select Menu, and from this menu, you will want to go to Network Settings on your TV.

4. Once you find yourself in the settings menu, select the option to enable wired internet in order to start the process.

5. Once you are there, using your remote’s buttons, you will be prompted to type in your password to the wifi network you will be using.

Fix 3 – Restart Your Router

Perhaps the issue with your bad connection is coming directly from your router, and restarting the router can fix this issue.

Modems and routers nowadays will come with a power button and a reset button already installed on the device in order to make these processes much simpler. Let’s start off with the process of restarting your router.

1. The reset button is located at the back of the device. In order to be able to reach the inside of the hole and actually reset the device, you will need a small sharp object such as a paperclip or an earring.

2. The power button will allow a user to restart the networking device without even needing to unplug the router in the first place. If your device has no power switch, you can also turn off the device by pulling the plug out of the power outlet.

3. After this, you will want to wait for 15 seconds. Follow this by then plugging the device back in. Performing this power cycle will help ensure that everything restarts correctly.

4. Go ahead and continue by unplugging the modem and router from the power outlet. Wait at least 15 seconds.

5. Follow this by plugging the modem back into the power outlet first. After this, you will want to wait about 2 minutes.

6. Now it is time for the user to go ahead and power on the router.

7. After doing this, you will want to wait for all panel lights on your cable modem to become green. Make sure you do this before testing your internet connection.

8. After this is done, you will need to connect to the network using your computer and once this is done, make sure to test the internet connection. It’s always better to test this by connecting with an ethernet cable. This can be done by directly plugging the ethernet cable into the router.

Fix 4 – Reset Your Router

Take your issue with your router one step further, and try resetting your router completely in order to see if this fixes the issue. Follow the next steps in order to try resetting your router as well.

1. First, start the reset process by unplugging your router and modem from the power outlet in the wall.

2. After this, you will want to unplug any connections between your modem and wireless router.

Wait a few seconds to allow the router to refresh and remove any stored data and allow the equipment’s memory to have time to refresh as well. This process should only take about a minute or two at most, and this does not cause any harm or damage to your device.

3. After you’ve let your modem and router refresh completely, you’ll want to plug your modem into the wall first. It is very important that you plug in your modem’s power cord before your modem.

Don’t plug your router in yet, and ensure you don’t hook up any other connections. Allow for about a minute for your modem to power up. During this power-up process, you will see the lights on the front of it blink or turn on and off.

4. After this is done, you will want to wait until most or all of your modem’s lights are glowing green. After this, you are ready for the next step.

5. After this, it is time for your router to start broadcasting that Wi-Fi signal. Start this by going ahead and plugging it back into the wall and reconnecting it to your modem.

6. Once you’ve plugged your router back in, the user should give the modem a few minutes to allow it to turn back on properly.

7. After both your modem and router are powered back up, it’s time to update your firmware and any apps your equipment uses.

Updating your firmware is an important process because firmware contains updates for your router and modem that keep them running smoothly.

Performing these firmware updates will make sure to remove any performance problems and may even help make your internet speed a lot faster, making your overall internet experience a much better one.

3. Corrupt Firmware of the Firestick

Firmware within any kind of device can become corrupt, and when this happens, many issues can arise for the device, including disconnection for the ethernet configuration. This has one simple fix that can make sure the firmware of the device is not corrupted.

Fix – Update Firesticks Firmware Again

In order to update the device’s firmware and make sure it is working as properly as it should be, follow the next steps:

1. Go to the Settings on your Firestick.

2. Select My Fire Tv in the Settings.

3. After this, choose About.

4. Once there, choose one of the two options: Check for Updates or Install Update.

5. Firestick will update once the option is confirmed.

4. There is a Bug

Fix – Cold Restart TV and Firestick

The next step in moving forward to fix your issue is trying to restart your TV and your Amazon Firestick. Users have two options for resetting their TV: a soft reset and a hard reset.

You do have to keep in mind that a soft reset and a hard reset are two different processes and both processes do different things to your TV. By restarting the TV, you will perform a soft reset.

This soft reset will involve putting the TV through a power cycle and will then reset the TV back to its fully-functioning state prior to any issues you were having.

You will also want to keep in mind that resetting a TV is a safe and effective way to resolve the problems you may have and is usually the first troubleshooting suggestion that any technical support member will ask the user to perform. This is an easy and effective process.

1. In order to start off the rest of the TV, you will want to go ahead and switch off your TV for a few minutes before you turn it back on.

This is called power cycling. Doing this soft reset will clear your TV’s customized settings, remove any residue charge and restart the TV without the user losing any personal information.

2. You will want to unplug the TV’s power cord from its outlet.

3. From there, you will want to hold the power button on the TV for 3 to 5 seconds, and once this time is up, release the button.

4. Reconnect the power cord to a power outlet and then turn the TV back on.

5. Some models allow you to also go through this soft reset process through your menu options within your TV settings. Press the Menu button on your TV remote control or use the side buttons and find the one designated to the TV menu.

6. Once you are on the Menu screen, you will want to find the option that says System. Follow this by choosing the option that says Reset & Admin.

7. When you are here, you will be able to choose the option that says Soft Power Cycle.

8. Once you go ahead and choose this option, your TV will turn off and will start the restart process on its own. The TV will also turn back on, and the TV will have gone through a soft reset.

9. Check to see if the TV has any horizontal lines that are remaining have gone away. If they have, then your issue with the lines appearing on your screen has been resolved.

Fix 2 – Factory Reset TV and Firestick

A factory reset is a more in-depth troubleshooting solution. Like the soft reset, it will require you to turn your TV off and back on. Performing a factory reset on your TV will also involve wiping the system memory, resetting firmware, and restoring your smart TV to its factory state.

Before performing a hard reset, you should first try a soft reset on your device to see if it helps first. If you end up needing to do a hard reset, there are two known methods of doing so.

When factory resetting your smart TV, you’ll need to have your remote control handy to be able to do it successfully. To factory reset, try following these steps.

1. Disconnect your wireless network from your TV.

2. Press the Menu key on your remote.

3. Scroll to System on the menu and select Ok.

4. Choose Reset & Admin and click on Ok.

5. Scroll down and select Reset TV to Factory State and press Ok.

6. Input your parental lock code. For most Vizio smart TVs, the default parental lock code is 0000.

7. Select Reset and then press Ok.

8. Wait until your TV shuts down. Your TV will reboot, clear its previous configurations and settings, and display a new setup screen.

9. Connect your router, follow the setup process, and reconnect to your Wi-Fi network. While this method may not work on older versions of the Vizio smart TV, it will work on all recent versions of the TV.

If your Vizio TV doesn’t reset using the first method, you may have to try the following method.

10. Switch off your TV but leave it plugged in the power outlet.

11. Hold down both the CH+ and the CH- button on your TV remote.

12. Press the Power button at the top of the remote for about 5 seconds before releasing it. Release the CH+ and CH- buttons at once.

13. Select the Menu button on your remote. Your TV screen will boot on and display its menu. You will notice an F icon at the bottom-right corner of the screen, signaling that it is a factory setup screen.

You will notice an F icon at the bottom-right corner of the screen, signaling that it is a factory setup screen. Your TV should display a Service menu. From there, you should be able to navigate your way through the factory reset options.

5. HDMI/USB Port Issue

There are several reasons why your Amazon Firestick is telling you that there is a disconnection of the ethernet configuration. One of the most common reasons for why this could be an input cable connectivity problem.

What does this mean? Most TVs require some sort of input into the TV in order to connect to a computer or a streaming software device.

In order to be able to connect to a device such as those mentioned, you will need to use an HDMI cable to get the devices connected to each other.

This input connection issue is a fairly common problem and can easily be resolved by checking the input HDMI cable connection. Follow the next steps in order to check if the issue lies within a loose or damaged HDMI cable connection to your TV.

1. Check the input cable connection. You will want to go ahead and check that the input cable is first all connected to the correct input port.

TVs come with multiple input ports for HDMI cables. Ensure your HDMI cable is connected to the same HDMI port you have designated on your TV settings.

This way, there will be a connection, and everything will be set up as indicated.

2. If the issue continues, you will want to reconnect the input cable to the correct input HDMI port to which you have designated the connection.

3. Once this has been done and the issue remains, you will want to try another input port. Try connecting to another device to the input port to rule out the input port being the cause of the issue.

If you have ruled out that the input port is not the issue, you will most likely find that the issue is actually the HDMI cable you are using.

Many times, especially if they have been used longer than recommended, the HDMI cable can become loose or damaged.

Because of this, the cable will not be able to provide a connection between the TV and the device you are trying to connect. When there is a connectivity issue, you will notice that the image is not clear and can end up showing lines on your TV screen.

This is an easy fix and something that can be confirmed by simply switching over the HDMI cable to one that you know is not broken or a completely new one. Follow the next steps to test out another HDMI cable.

Fix – Put Firestick Into Another HDMI Port

If you plug in your Firestick directly into an HDMI port, try plugging the Firestick into another HDMI port as perhaps the one that you were previously using was faulty or damaged. This can ensure that this is not the reason as to why the devices are not working as they should be.

Fix 2 – Put Cables Into Another USB Port

USB ports can also become faulty or be filled with dust and debris, causing the connection they provide to wear off and not work properly. Try putting the cables for your Amazon Firestick into another USB port that is clean and free from any obstructions.

Fix 3 – Try the Firestick on Another TV

At times, the real reason that your firestick is not working properly might not even have to do with the device itself. Instead, your TV is the one causing the issues.

To make sure this is not the case, go ahead and try connecting your Firestick to another TV to ensure that both are working as they should be.
