You have just signed up to be a DoorDash Dasher and you’re ready to start scheduling dashes, extending dashes, or making an instant dash.
Or, you have been a Dasher for a while and you’re trying to schedule your next dash. However, when you try to do this, you encounter the annoying error message stating that Dasher must be active to schedule dashes.
This error message, especially given the fact that it does not provide a lot of information, can leave you gutted and wondering what to do to fix the problem.
In this article, we have explored all the possible reasons why you may receive this error message, and provided proven solutions to resolve it once and for all.
What Does ‘Dasher Must Be Active to Schedule Dashes’ Mean?
This error message simply means that your Dasher account is inactive.
What’s really confusing about this error is that it can affect both new dashers and old-timers alike. So what exactly does DoorDash mean by this error message?
Well, normally, there are either of two possibilities: it is either that you are a new Dasher and your Dasher account is not yet active or you have been a Dasher for a while, but for some reason, your account has become disabled.
The above are the main reasons why you may receive the error. But there are other reasons which we will explore in detail shortly.
If you are a new Dasher and you have received a welcome email from DoorDash stating that your account is activated, then you should not receive such an error message.
If you do receive the error message anyway, then you should treat the error as a bug that is affecting an existing Dasher.
If, on the other hand, you are an existing Dasher and suddenly receive this error message after previously being able to schedule, extend and dash now, then you should know that there has likely been an issue with your account.
It is likely that it has been deleted permanently. There are several reasons why DoorDash may delete or disable an account. We will explore these reasons in the next section below.
Why Does It Say ‘Dasher Must Be Active to Schedule Dashes’?
We suggest that you use the status of your Dasher account as a hint on the possible reason why you receive the error message that Dasher must be active to schedule dashes.
What we mean is this: if you have just signed up for Dasher, especially if you’re yet to receive a confirmation or welcome email, then it is likely that you are seeing this error message because your account is not yet activated.
If on the other hand you are an existing Dasher or you have received the welcome email from DoorDash, then it is possible that there has been an issue on your account.
1. Account Not Activated
From our research, the “Dasher must be active to schedule dashes” error message is mostly experienced by new dashers.
You should note that after registering to become a DoorDash Dasher, the approval period takes about five working days. This is because DoorDash has to verify the information you have provided during registration, and conduct some background checks on you.
So if you have just registered and it’s not yet up to five working days, then it is likely that your account is not yet active.
When DoorDash approves your application and activates your account as a Dasher. You will receive a welcome email from them stating that your account has been activated.
If you did not see this email in your inbox, you could check your spam or junk folder to see if the email is there. If you have not received this email then you are pretty certain that your account is not yet active and you cannot schedule a dash, extend a dash or dash now.
According to DoorDash, there are two things that you must do before you are able to schedule a dash. They include:
1. Completing the Dasher sign-up process.
2. Setting up your red card to activate your account.
As a Dasher, we assume that you already know and have followed the process to complete the Dasher sign up process. We recommend that you enter only valid, verifiable, and accurate information when completing the signup process.
When it comes to activating your Dasher red card, follow the steps below:
Setting up Red Card on iOS:
1. In the Dasher app, tap Account
2. On the top of the next page, tap the red-colored link that states Did DoorDash give you a payment card?
3. Enter your new card’s delight number and last 4 digits
Setting up Red Card on Android:
1. Tap the Menu icon (located in the top left corner) and select Red Card from the dropdown.
2. Enter your new card’s delight number and last 4 digits
The delight number is the number next to the word Delight on your card. The last 4 digits are the last 4 digits of the long string of numbers above the delight number…the digits are usually 12 in total.
Once you have completed these processes, you simply have to wait until you receive a welcome email from DoorDash. It is only then that you can become a full Dasher and schedule, extend, and dash now.
Even if you have completed these processes and received the welcome email, we recommend that you give it a day or two more if you continue to get the “Dasher must be active to schedule a dash” error message.
However, if you have received your physical red card and you are still unable to use the Dasher app, then there is a problem with your account and you need to contact DoorDash support.
This is because you cannot receive a Dasher red card if your account has not yet been fully activated and ready for dashing.
Therefore, if you have received the red card and you’re still getting the error message described in this article, then you need to contact DoorDash support for assistance on the issue.
2. Missing Dasher Information on File
Whether you are a new Dasher or an existing Dasher and have been using the application for a while, it is possible that you are seeing the error message of Dasher must be active to schedule a dash because there is some missing information on your Dasher profile.
If, for example, you are a new Dasher and your account has been fully activated, it is possible that there are still restrictions on the dashes you can make until you receive your Dasher red card.
You see, the Dasher red card is a credit card that you as a Dasher can use to pay for some DoorDash orders. It is usually given to you during orientation or when you receive a welcome kit as a sign of full account activation.
Therefore, if you have not yet received the Dasher red card it could be that there is still some restriction on your account and you may receive the error message described in this article when you try to schedule or complete certain dashes.
Also, whether as a new Dasher or an old-timer, it could be that some vital information, such as your vehicle registration or some other information about your vehicle, is missing from your Dasher profile.
So, your account may be activated, but because some information is missing, you may be unable to complete or schedule dashes.
This problem usually happens when your driver’s license expires.
Fix – Review Dasher Information
Whether you are a new Dasher or an existing one, consider the possibility that some information is missing on your Dasher file.
1. Open the Dasher app
2. Click on your account and then go through every information on your account, especially your vehicle and identification details to make sure that they are still valid and complete.
3. Dasher Account Disabled
If your Dasher account has been disabled or deactivated, then you are sure to receive the error message of “Dasher must be active to schedule dashes”.
There are a number of reasons why DoorDash may disable your Dasher account and we are going to explore every one of them in detail below.
The idea is to equip you with relevant information to prevent your account from being disabled by DoorDash and receiving the error described in this article.
Before going into why your DoorDash account may be deactivated or disabled, we need to make it clear that DoorDash usually sends you an email stating that your account has indeed been deactivated.
They even sometimes provide reasons for this. So we recommend that when you encounter this error message, you should check your email for any communications from DoorDash stating that your account has been deactivated.
As always, also check your junk or spam folder in case the email was delivered there.
You are already aware that after every delivery you make as a driver, the consumers rate your performance.
According to DoorDash, if you are consistently late, deliver orders with missing items, or behave unprofessionally/inappropriately towards consumers, you are in danger of getting consistently low ratings from consumers.
And, if your ratings fall below the DoorDash threshold of 4.2, you are subject to account deactivation as long as you have accepted at least 20 orders.
As a driver, you have the right to accept or decline any order that is offered to you. There is no penalty for declining orders.
However, if you accept an order and pick up the order, you must endeavour to complete the delivery of the order. This is called Completion Rate. If your Completion Rate falls below 80%, your account is subject to deactivation
4. Unsafe driving
This includes texting and driving, not pulling over before examining or accepting a delivery opportunity, and failing to be conscientious while using navigation apps.
If you are involved in an accident, DoorDash will find out the facts surrounding the accident and deactivate your account if you are found to be at fault
Violating local, state, or federal laws of any kind. Also, theft of goods to be delivered, damage to or theft of any third-party property, failure to verify customer ID for orders that are restricted by age, and the use of DoorDash to engage in any unlawful activity
If a background check finds something about you that does not meet up to DoorDash standards, your account will be deactivated if you already have access to DoorDash services.
Disclosing personal information online or sharing such with a third party except as required by law.
Manipulating the consumer referral program, the Dasher referral program, Dasher pay promotions, or other similar types of programs
Giving false information when signing up as a driver on DoorDash, creating multiple accounts, using the same phone number as an account that is already in use, and failing to provide the correct information on the mode of transportation you will use to perform delivery duties.
These are the main factors that can cause your Dasher account to be deactivated. Unfortunately, apart from Rating and Completion Rate, you are unlikely to get any warning before your account is deactivated. This often makes it hard to figure out what you may have done wrong. You will just get told in-app that your account has been deactivated, followed by an email that is rarely ever detailed.
4. Issue on Doordash Servers
Another common reason why you may get the “Dasher must be active to schedule dashes” error message is that DoorDash themselves may be experiencing some downtime on their servers.
This downtime may result in some unexpected error such as giving the described error message, even though your account is in order and you are eligible to schedule, extend, and dash now.
When there is an issue on DoorDash servers, there is actually nothing much you can do other than to wait it out. Such issues rarely ever occur without the knowledge of DoorDash and they are likely working on a solution to the problem.
However, we recommend that if you receive this error as a new Dasher, and you have confirmed that everything on your account is in order and your account is activated, then it is possible that your current account status has not yet reflected on DoorDash servers.
One thing you can do to resolve this is to clear the DoorDash cache on your phone using the steps below:
First, exit Dasher and swipe it away from recent items. Then,
1. Long-press the Dasher app
2. Select App Info
3. Select Clear Data
4. Select Clear Cache
1. Navigate to Settings on your device.
2. Select General.
3. Select iPhone Storage.
4. Select Dasher app.
5. Select Offload app.
6. Confirm the action.
7. Select Reinstall app.
5. You’re On Waitlist
What we have done so far is to eliminate possible issues that may be as a result of incomplete registration and account activation, account deactivation, issues on DoorDash servers, and missing information on DoorDash files.
Once you are sure that all of these are sorted out, then just wait. It is likely that you have been placed on a waitlist for orders in your area because there are already too many Dashers in the same area waiting for orders.
We have found that old Dashers are given priority over new Dashers. Whatever the case, as long as you’re sure that there is no issue on your account or on your Dasher app, then just wait it out and try again later.
It is just likely that you have been placed on the waitlist, and you will be able to make new dashes as soon as it gets your turn.
