There is no doubt that every new iOS update offers something new along with substantial improvements to the overall functionality of the device. With that being said, sometimes an iOS update can bring frustration too. Many iPhone users complain that some features on their iPhone aren’t functioning properly after the update. Reset and Update Vehicle’ Infotainment System:
If your CarPlay isn’t functioning properly then start with a simple step. Try connecting the CarPlay while your vehicle is switched on. 3. Next, tap the option Privacy and Content Restrictions.

6. For the older iPhones running on older iOS, simply go to the option General followed by Restrictions to disable the CarPlay.
Pairing the CarPlay over Bluetooth isn’t a difficult task but most users face Bluetooth connectivity issues which affect the CarPlay. So, if Bluetooth is creating connectivity issues then you need to unpair the connection between your iPhone and the vehicle and re-pair it. Before re-pairing, restart your iPhone as a precaution.
You can also delete the other connections to any other vehicle and just keep it only to one which is your current vehicle. You can check other connection by:

Night Mode Maps:
The map app on iPhone switches to dark mode at night. It is a default setting but sometimes it doesn’t change its mode over the CarPlay and hence it becomes difficult to navigate the map. The easiest way to address this issue is to start navigation to a destination. The dark mode will automatically enable soon as the journey begins. You can end navigating and dark mode would not disappear.

Spotify Over CarPlay:
Some iPhone users have experienced Spotify not working with CarPlay after they updated their iPhones to iOS 12. Spotify app individually works fine, but when the users open it over CarPlay, the screen goes black. The non-technical fix, in this case, is to force close the Spotify and relaunch it. Also, unpair your vehicle from the iPhone and re-pair it back to see if it works.
The technical solution is regarding the Waze and Spotify integration when using CarPlay. Waze is a new addition to CarPlay in iOS 12. If you have enabled this integration then you will need to disable it temporarily. Doing this will fix the issue and then you can enable it back.
This issue is perhaps limited to iPhone X users only. What they have been reporting is the problem where the display screen goes black, but the touch functionality and Audio keeps working fine. In this case, you can only switch off your car and turn it back on to see if it helps. Furthermore, a hard reset is also a viable option in this case.
Many Apple experts claimed that this issue is limited to iOS 12 only and the update (iOS 12.1) was supposed to address it. However, the problem still exists (even in iOS 12.4), and the users are still searching for the answer. In this case, restoring the iPhone to factory settings has helped some of the users. It is not a 100% concrete solution, but it is worth a try.
