If you got to purchase an app in the App Store and your keep being asked to update your credit card info associated with your Apple ID, you’ll need to do this if you want to purchase the app.

Although you can purchase apps for free on your iPhone, iPad or Mac, your Apple ID will still require your credit card for you to download free apps.

You may see this in the form of an error saying, “Verification Required – Before you can make purchases, you must tap Continue to verify your payment info.” or “Verification Required. Tap Continue and sign in to view billing information.”

The Reason for this Error

The main reason why the app store keeps asking for your credit card info or it says the error Verification Required, is that your payment method was declined. This usually happens because your credit card info has changed, and you’ll need to update it to a valid payment method or no payment method at all.

1. Update your Credit Card Info

The first thing you can do to resolve this problem is to update your credit card info. If you’ve recently changed your credit or debit card information and you haven’t updated it on your Apple ID, you’ll need to update it.

1. Go to Settings.

2. Click on your name > iTunes & App Store.

3. Tap your Apple ID.

4. Tap View Apple ID. You might be asked to sign in.

5. Tap Manage Payments. You may also see Payment Information.

6. Tap the payment method that you want to change.

7. Edit your information. Make sure that your information matches the correct information your bank has. You might need to enter the security code from your credit or debit card.

For Mac or PC:

1. Open iTunes.

2. Choose Account > View My Account. This is in the menu bar at the top of the iTunes window.

3. Sign in with your Apple ID.

4. Make sure your info is correct.

5. Click Manage Payments to the right of Payment Information.

6. Click Edit next to the payment method. You may need to enter the security code on your credit or debit card.

2. Cancel Payment Method

If you’re still being asked for your credit card information and you’re still seeing the Verification Required error, you’ll need to remove your credit or debit card information entirely.

1. Go to Settings.

2. Click on your name > iTunes & App Store.

3. Tap your Apple ID.

4. Tap View Apple ID. You might be asked to sign in.

5. Tap Manage Payments. You may also see Payment Information

6. Click None as a Payment method.

7. Tap Done.

If you don’t see the None option, it can be because of the following: You have an unpaid balance, so you’ll need to pay your balance. You have an active subscription that you need to cancel. You’re using Family Sharing.

1. Open iTunes.

2. Choose Account > View My Account. This is in the menu bar at the top of the iTunes window.

3. Sign in with your Apple ID.

4. Make sure your info is correct.

5. Click Manage Payments to the right of Payment Information.

6. Click None as a payment method.

7. Click Done.
