If you find that your AirTag is constantly beeping, it can be annoying. But luckily, there are a few ways you can stop it. But first, you need to know why it’s happening.
Why Does My AirTag Beep When I Pick it Up
Sometimes the AirTag beeps every time you pick it up. While this does not affect the features that come with the AirTag, it can be incredibly annoying and irksome.
There are also a lot of different reasons as to why your AirTag is beeping such as safety alerts are on, it unpaired from your iPhone, it needs to be updated, and various other little bugs that can be causing this issue.
Thankfully, there are quite a couple of solutions that are easy to do and will hopefully get your AirTag to stop beeping when you pick it up.
Why is My AirTag Beeping
1. You’ve Left It’s Play Sound Feature On
Fix – Turn It Off
If you recently used Find My to locate your AirTag, the sound may just still be playing through it which is why your AirTag is still beeping.
To turn this sound off, simply remove Find My from the history of the device that you used to play the lost sound originally from. By doing this, your AirTag should stop beeping when you pick it up.
2. Safety Alerts Are On
Fix – Disable Item Security Alerts
Another reason that your AirTag may be beeping when you pick it up is that you have left your safety alerts on. This feature can be easily disabled and all you will need is your iPhone or iPad. You will also need to be able to access your Find My app on said device.
1. The first thing you should do to turn off your safety alerts on your AirTag is open up Find My on your iPhone or your iPad.
2. Next, click on the Me option in the bottom right corner of the Find My app.
3. Now, you will see a heading that says Item Safety Alerts with a toggle next to it. Click on this toggle so that this feature is disabled.
4. A confirmation screen will appear on your iPhone or iPad and you will just need to click on Disable.
Following these steps will turn off the safety alerts for your AirTag and all other devices that are connected to your Find My app on your iPhone or iPad.
This should hopefully get your AirTag to stop beeping every time you pick it up and kick this annoying issue to the curb.
It’s Trying to Help You Find the iTem (give Siri a command asking it to find your wallet, and the AirTag will make a sound if it is around)
Fix 2 – Put Up the iTem
If you were trying to find an item that is attached to your AirTag, this could be another reason why your AirTag is beeping every time you pick it up. Let’s say you attached your AirTag to your wallet because you have a history of losing it so you want to be able to find your wallet easily, and the AirTag does just that.
Now, you lose your wallet and tell Siri to find said missing wallet. Now, your AirTag will play a sound, such as beeping, so that you can locate it and the AirTag can serve its purpose. So, your AirTag will be beeping because it wants you to find it.
To stop this beeping all you have to do is pick up the iTem, which is the thing you have attached to your AirTag, so in this case, the iTem is your wallet so you just need to pick up your wallet.
This should make your AirTag stop beeping as the only reason it was beeping in the first place was so that you could find it.
3. Paring Has Been Confirmed
Fix – There’s Nothing, You Can Do, This is Just to Let You Know It’s Been Paired
Was it recently your birthday and you are famous for misplacing your house keys? Are you often late to every single event because you can never remember where you left your key fob for your car?
There are a lot of reasons as to why you may have been recently gifted an AirTag or even decided to buy one for yourself.
Your AirTag might also be beeping when you pick it up or even in general because it has recently been paired to your Find My account on your iPad or your iPhone.
In these cases, the beeping is simply just an indication that your AirTag has successfully been connected to your iPad or iPhone’s Find My account. This beeping might continue for a little while but should eventually stop with just a little bit of time.
4. It’s Been Disconnected For Over 8 Hours
Fix – Connected to iPhone Again
If your AirTag has been disconnected from your iPhone or iPad for over eight hours, this could be another reason as to why your AirTag is beeping every time you pick it up. If this is the case for you, there is a very simple solution. All you have to do is reconnect the AirTag to your iPhone or iPad again.
1. Start by grabbing either your iPad or iPhone along with your disconnected AirTag.
2. Bring your AirTag next to your iPhone or iPad.
3. You should be able to see the connect animation appear on your iPhone or iPad and tap on Pair.
4. By clicking Pair, you will have to name your AirTag again and it will be reconnected to your Find My account.
Following these steps will get your AirTag reconnected to your Find My account on either your iPad or iPhone. Doing this should hopefully make your AirTag stop beeping when you pick it up as well.
5. Firmware Out of Date
Fix – Update Firmware
Just like with every other Apple product that you own, your AirTag will need to have its software updated to properly function for you. If your AirTag is running on an outdated software, this could be the cause of why it is beeping every time you pick it up.
However, with most Apple products, you can manually update your IOS system when you are having issues with another one of their products if your device did not automatically update itself.
With an AirTag, there is no way for you to manually go about updating its IOS system, so if this is the cause of your problems with the AirTag beeping every time you pick it up, you will sadly just have to wait until it naturally updates its IOS system on its own.
An AirTag will update whenever it is within the Bluetooth range of your iPad or your iPhone. So, to try and help your AirTag update as soon as possible even though there is little you can truly do, constantly keep it near either your iPad or iPhone so that your AirTag can be connected to your device and hopefully update on its own.
6. Bug/Glitch
Fix – Turn Airplane Mode Off Then On
Your AirTag may also be beeping because there is a bug or glitch in Apple’s system which is causing your AirTag to beep every time you pick it up.
To help get rid of this beeping sound and glitch, you can turn airplane mode off and then back on to see if this fxes your issues with your AirTag. This can be done in just a few steps.
1. To start, grab the iPad or iPhone that your beeping AirTag is connected to.
2. Next, open up Settings on your iPad or iPhone.
3. Now, you will see Airplane Mode right below your Apple ID information. Press on the toggle next to Airplane mode to turn this feature on.
4. Give your device a couple of moments, and then click on the toggle again so you turn Airplane Mode back on.
Doing this will help your iPhone or iPad recognize the AirTag that is connected to it.
7. Hopefully, this will make your AirTag stop beeping.
Fix 2 – Make Sure Find My App is Enabled
Another glitch or bug that could be the cause of your AirTag beeping when you pick it up is that the Find My app on your iPhone or iPad is not enabled so your AirTag is beeping because it is not actually connected to anything. Thankfully, you can easily check to see if your Find My is enabled on your iPad or iPhone.
1. First, grab the iPad or iPhone that your beeping AirTag is connected to.
2. Next, open up Settings on your iPad or iPhone.
3. Now, click on your name at the top of the screen which will bring you to your Apple ID settings.
4. Once there, you will see Find My with an icon that looks like a green circle. Click on Find My.
5. You will now see a toggle next to Share My Location. If this toggle is green, Find My is enabled on your device. If this toggle is gray, click on it so that it turns to green. Doing this will enable your Find My app for your device and your AirTag.
If the toggle was gray and you turned it to green, this should make your AirTag stop beeping. However, if the toggle was already green, you already had Find My enabled on your device so this is not the cause of your AirTag beeping.
Fix 3 – Re-add AirTag
You can also try removing and then re-adding your AirTag to your Find My app, to stop it from beeping every time you pick it up, which is the app that you use to locate your AirTag and whatever item it is connected to. To do this, you will need to have access to your Find My app on either an iPhone or an iPad.
1. First, get logged into your Find My account on either your iPhone or your iPad.
2. Once you are logged in, click on the Items section from the bottom of the screen.
3. Locate the AirTag that is beeping and then click on Remove Item.
4. You will now have a confirmation screen appear and select Remove.
5. Next, close your Find My app.
6. Now, bring your newly removed AirTag next to your iPhone or iPad.
7. You should be able to see the connect animation appear on your iPhone or iPad and tap on Pair.
8. By clicking Pair, you will have to name your AirTag again and it will be reconnected to your Find My account.
By completing these steps, you will have hopefully been able to stop the beeping that is occurring every time you pick up your AirTag.
Fix 4 – Restart Location Services
Restarting your location services within your Find My app on your iPad or iPhone may also help you to get your AirTag to stop beeping. Follow these simple steps to do just that.
1. First, grab the iPad or iPhone that your beeping AirTag is connected to.
2. Next, open up Settings on your iPad or iPhone.
3. Now, click on your name at the top of the screen which will bring you to your Apple ID settings.
4. Once there, you will see Find My with an icon that looks like a green circle. Click on Find My.
5. You will now see a toggle next to Share My Location. This toggle will be green. Click on it so that it turns to gray.
6. Give your device a couple of minutes and then click on the toggle again so it turns back to green. This will have restarted your location services.
After completing these steps, your AirTag will hopefully stop beeping when you pick it up because you have reset your location services so your device should be able to easily locate said AirTag.
Fix 5 – Reset Network Settings
A bad internet connection may also be the cause of your problems with your AirTag beeping every single time you pick it up. By locating your Wi-Fi router and restarting it, this will hopefully improve your faulty internet and reset your network settings.
To restart it, you can either simply unplug it from the outlet that it is plugged into for a couple of minutes then plug it back in, or locate the power button on the router itself and turn it off for a while before turning it back on.
Your Wi-Fi connection on your device or cellular data may also be the reason that your AirTag is beeping every time you pick it up. One change may be to switch to your cellular data if you are currently connected to Wi-Fi, or vice versa.
Once you have changed to either Wi-Fi or data, or reset your network settings, pick up your AirTag and check to see if it has fnally stopped beeping.
Fix 6 – Update Software
Just like with every other Apple product that you own, your AirTag will need to have its software updated to properly function for you. If your AirTag is running on an outdated software, this could be the cause of why it is beeping every time you pick it up.

Fix 7 – Reset AirTag
Resetting your AirTag is yet another possible solution that you can try to make your AirTag stop beeping every time that you pick it up.
This potential remedy is very easy and quick, but is a little more complicated than some of the other options as you will need to remove the battery.
1. To begin, grab the AirTag that keeps beeping and press on the stainless steel cover of your AirTag.
2. As you are pressing on this cover, rotate it counterclockwise until it stops moving.
3. You can now remove the cover from your AirTag.
4. Next, take out the battery which is the silver circle inside of your AirTag.
5. Now, place the battery back inside, but do not put the cover back on, and remove it again.
6. Repeat this step of just taking the battery out, no need to do anything with the cover, five times.
7. Once you have done this fve times, your Airtag will play a different sound than before and this means it has been reset.
8. You will now need to reconnect your AirTag to one of your devices again.
9. Bring your newly reset AirTag next to your iPhone or iPad.
10. You should be able to see the connect animation appear on your iPhone or iPad and tap on Pair.
11. By clicking Pair, you will have to name your AirTag again and it will be reconnected to your Find My account.
Doing this reset of your AirTag will hopefully allow you to pick it up and have it no longer beep every time.
How to Mute AirTag
Sadly, there is no way to actually mute your AirTag. While this is true, there are a couple ways that you can go about working around this inability to mute your AirTag.
1. Remove the Speaker Manually
Another way to get your AirTag to stop beeping is to remove the speaker from it so that there is nothing it can play the beeping sound with. To do this, you will need to purchase AirTag Speaker Removal Tools. Once you have the tools, you can follow these steps to remove the speaker.
1. First, grab your tools and grab your beeping AirTag.
2. Now, press on the stainless steel cover of your AirTag.
3. As you are pressing on this cover, rotate it counter clockwise until it stops moving.
4. You can now remove the cover from your AirTag.
5. Next, take out the battery which is the silver circle inside of your AirTag.
6. Using the tweezer from your tools, grab the AirTag speaker.
Doing this will remove the speaker from your AirTag, so there is virtually no way for your AirTag to play any sound at all, including the beeping you have been trying to get rid of.
2. Remove Battery
Removing your AirTag’s battery is another way that you can go about resetting your AirTag so that it stops beeping when you pick it up. This can easily be done in a couple of steps.
1. To begin, grab the AirTag that keeps beeping and press on the stainless steel cover of your AirTag.
2. As you are pressing on this cover, rotate it counter clockwise until it stops moving.
3. You can now remove the cover from your AirTag.
4. Next, take out the battery which is the silver circle inside of your AirTag.
By removing the battery, you have removed the power source or your AirTag so it will be unable to beep.
