Have you ever seen the I’m feeling lucky button? It’s usually located right under the search bar on the Google home screen. You may have clicked it a few times since you didn’t know what it meant, and you may have been confused about where it took you.

This button is a way to users to escape navigating the search results. Since the first result on the page is usually the best result, the button will take you right to that result and you don’t have to do anything. You have to type a keyword in the search bar before pressing “I’m Feeling Lucky.”

It saves you a few seconds and you can use it on your free time if you’re interested in the first search result of a random keyword. Below, you will directions on how to add the button to your Google Chrome search page if it isn’t there already.

Adding the Extension

1. Go to the I’m Feeling Lucky Extension.

2. Click the Blue Add Extension button to put this extension in your browser.

Using Search Engine in Settings

Go to google chrome

1. Launch Google Chrome on your laptop. The icon resembles a multicolored circle and you have to double click it to launch it. You will now be on your Chrome home page.

2. In the upper right corner of the home page, you will see three vertical dots. Click on those dots and a menu will pop- up beneath it.

3. Look at the bottom of the menu that appeared. Click on the option on the menu that says, “Settings.” This will take you to the settings screen.

4. Scroll to the middle of the page. There is a heading that says, “Search engine” and under that heading you will see two options. Click the option that says, “Manage Search engines.”

5. You will see a list of all the search engines that you can use. Most have Google as their default search engine on Google Chrome.

To the right of the heading that says, “Other search engines” you will need to click the blue text that says, “Add.” Once you do this, a dialog box will open up on the screen in the middle of it.

6. You will need to enter the next few parts into the text boxes without any mistake. Under the section titled “Search Engine” type “I’m Feeling Lucky” into the box. Under the heading that says Keyword, type “Lucky.” And under the URL section, copy and paste this link into it: {google:baseURL}search?q=%s&btnI=Im+Feeling+Lucky

7. Press the blue add button after you’ve entered everything listed above into the corresponding boxes.

Using I’m Feeling Lucky

1. Close the settings tab and reopen Google Chrome.

2. In the address bar at the top of the screen, press \ and your Tab key. You should see “I’m Feeling Lucky” appear in the search bar at the top of the screen. You can now type the keywords of the results that you want, and it will open the first search result that would be on the search results page.

You should keep in mind that this is a great feature for topics or questions that are straight forward. “Los Angeles weather” or “information about whales” would be great for this feature. Anything the is nuanced, however, should done in a regular Google search.
