One of the things that you probably use the most throughout the day on your device is your data. Many of the tasks that you complete involve you keeping an eye on your broadband cellular network. When this technology first came out everyone had 3G which was very slow.

Now that 4G is the standard you can stream, search on a browser, and do whatever else you need to do that involves Internet. Since we use the Internet for nearly everything, it can be very annoying if your 4G isn’t working. Here is how you can fix your 4G problems on your Android device.

Check Mobile Data

You may not notice if your mobile data is turned off. If it is turned off, then this might be why your phone can’t connect to 4G network. Here’s how you make sure that your phone is connected to mobile data.

1. Launch the settings app. The Settings app icon resembles a gray gear.

2. On the Settings menu, click on “Connections,” which is usually located at the top of the Settings menu.

3. On the Connections menu, scroll down to the bottom of the menu and click on “Data Usage.”

4. On the “Data Usage” menu look underneath the header that says “Mobile.”

5. Under the “Mobile” header you should see an option this says, “Mobile Data.” Make sure that the switch to the left of this option is turned on. Turning this on allows you to access the Internet through your mobile network.

If this option is already turned on, then your mobile data settings are correct and this isn’t the issue that you’re having.

Restart Your Device

You’ve probably been told to restart your device countless times whenever you have a technical problem, but this actually might help you if you’re having mobile data connection issues. You’ll want to try this out just in case this simple action will fix the problems that you’re having.

Long press on the power button on the side of your mobile device and select “Restart” from the menu that appears on the screen. When your device turns back on, see if you can connect to the mobile data network. If you can then restarting your device fixed the issue. If not, then you’ll have to try another resolution.

Reinsert your SIM card

If your SIM card isn’t in correctly, then you won’t be able to connect to your mobile data network. Here is how you remove and reinsert your SIM card in your device.

Turn off your device. Then, you have to find where the SIM card is located on your mobile device. On newer phones to SIM card is located on the side of your device and you can see where it is based on the overall outline of it. There should be a dot on one side of the outline. If you have an older device, then you can take the back of your phone off and you’ll be able to push in the SIM card to pop it out. If you have your SIM card on the side of your device then you’ll need to use the SIM card removal tool that came with your device.

Take your SIM card out of your device and pop it back into your device in the same area. Make sure that it’s pushed in all the way. Try to use your mobile data network once you turn your device back on to see if it was a SIM card issue.

Turn on and off airplane mode

Airplane Mode is the setting that shuts off many of the functions on your device. If this setting is on, then you won’t be able to use your mobile data but if it’s off, then toggling it on and off might help you fix this. Here’s how you access airplane mode settings.

1. Launch your settings menu. The settings icon on your device resembles a gray gear.

2. Once you have the settings menu open, tap on the option that says “Connections,” which is usually located at the top of the screen.

3. Once you click on the Connections option, you’ll enter the Connections menu. On the menu, scroll until you see the Airplane Mode option and make sure that the switch to the right of it is turned off. If it’s turned off, turn it on and then back off again.

If you performed these steps, try to use your mobile data to see if toggling airplane mode on and off fixed your issue.

Network mode

If you were on the wrong network mode, then your connection settings for your mobile data isn’t permitting you to connect to the mobile network whenever you can. Here’s how you can change your network mode settings.

1. Launch your settings menu. The settings icon on your device resembles a gray gear.

2. Once you have the settings menu tap on the option that says connections which is usually located at the Top of the screen.

4. Once you click on the connections option, you’ll enter the connections menu. On the connections menu you’ll need to scroll until you see the option that says “Mobile Networks.”

5. Once you enter the Mobile Networks menu, click on network mode and a menu will appear.

6. On the menu that appears, you’ll see 4 options. Make sure the option that is that says, “Automatic” is chosen. If it’s chosen, you should see it highlighted a different color than the other options and there should be a check mark to the right of it.

Once you do this, you can close this menu and check to see if you were able to use your mobile data again.
