3D Touch Not Working on iPhone

When 3D Touch was first featured on the iPhone 6s and 6 Plus, it showcased an innovative way to do more with your device, with just the press of a finger. 3D Touch works by sensing how hard you press on the iPhone’s display, and then accordingly displays options based on the hard press. This provides users with an easy and efficient way to complete important tasks.

Recently, some users have reported that they’re having difficult operating 3D Touch. This usually isn’t cause for concern and can happen for various reasons, with the most common being that users aren’t properly using 3D Touch. It could also be possible that you unwittingly disabled 3D Touch from your settings. Luckily, there are easy ways to fix this problem. To get started, follow the instructions below,

Ensure that 3D Touch is Enabled on Your Device

First things first, make sure that you’ve enabled 3D Touch on your device. To do this follow the instructions below,

1. Open the Settings application on your device. It has a grey background with an icon of a gear on it.

2. Tap on General.

Tap on Accessibility

5. Ensure that the toggle button for 3D Touch is enabled. The button should be green when enabled.

If the toggle button was disabled, check to see if 3D Touch is working after enabling the button.

Ensure that You’re Pressing Appropriately

In order for 3D Touch to properly work, you must press hard on the display. Not to worry, this won’t break your iPhone. Try placing your device on a flat surface, such as a table and press hard on an application or other feature you’re trying to use 3D Touch on.

You must also make sure that your finger doesn’t slip or slide while pressing on the screen, as your device will register this as a tap or swipe, instead of as a 3D Touch motion. If 3D Touch still doesn’t work, try the troubleshooting methods below.

Adjust 3D Touch Sensitivity

If you feel that you’re having trouble using 3D Touch because you find it difficult to press hard on the screen, you can adjust the sensitivity for 3D Touch. By setting 3D Touch to light sensitivity, you may find it’s much easier to use. In order to adjust the sensitivity of 3D Touch, follow the instructions below,

1. Open the Settings application on your device. It has a grey background with an icon of a gear on it.

2. Tap on General.

3. Tap on Accessibility.

4. Scroll down and tap on 3D Touch.

5. Under the heading 3D TOUCH SENSITIVITY, you’ll notice a slider which you can drag left or right in order to adjust the sensitivity of 3D Touch. If you wish to have light sensitivity, then drag the slider to the left.

Below this slider you’ll also notice a 3D TOUCH SENSITIVITY TEST. Press on the image in the test in order to see if the sensitivity you adjusted is to your liking.

Reset All Settings on Your Device

If none of the above methods worked for you, you can try resetting all the settings on your device. Many users have reported that this worked for them. An added benefit to this option is that it won’t delete any of your data, and will simply reset your device’s settings to factory state. In order to reset your settings, follow the instructions below,

1. Open the Settings application on your device. It has a grey background and an icon of a gear on it.

2. Tap on General.

Tap on Reset

3. Tap on Reset.

4. Tap on Reset All Settings. You may be prompted to enter your passcode. Please do so accordingly.

After you’ve rest all your settings, try using 3D Touch once again, and see if the problem has resolved.

Erase All Content and Settings on Your Device

This method isn’t exactly ideal, but if all else fails, this is the only option left you can try. Please note that by carrying out this option, you’ll lose all the data on your device.

However, this isn’t usually cause for concern if you back up your device often. After erasing the content on your device, you can restore it from backup and have all your data back in place. In order to erase all content from your device, follow the instructions below,

1. Open the Settings application on your device. It has a grey background and an icon of a gear on it.

2. Tap on General.

3. Tap on Reset.

Tap Erase All Content and Settings

4. Tap Erase All Content and Settings. You may be prompted to enter your passcode. Please do so accordingly.

After you’ve carried out this step, check to see if 3D Touch is working properly. After confirming this, you may proceed to restore your device from backup, if you’d like. If after carrying out all these methods, 3D Touch still isn’t working, it’s best to take your device to the nearest Apple Store and get it checked out.
